Civil Engineer Job Description This Civil Engineer role focuses on delivering high-quality civil engineering design services for residential, commercial, and municipal projects. You will contribute to site development projects that include site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility routing, and roadway components, while supporting project planning, documentation, and regulatory compliance. The position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects across NYC and Nassau, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and mentor junior staff while progressing toward professional licensure. Responsibilities Lead and support civil engineering design projects involving site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and roadway components. Prepare detailed engineering reports, technical calculations, design drawings, and permitting packages for review and submission. Assist with project planning, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams to meet project milestones. Participate in client meetings, municipal hearings, and on-site evaluations as needed to present designs and address technical questions. Ensure all designs and deliverables comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including requirements from NYSDEC, local municipalities, and other regulatory agencies. Oversee and guide work performed by junior engineers, drafters, and field personnel to ensure consistency and technical accuracy. Provide quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on design deliverables, including drawings, calculations, and reports. Support hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for drainage and stormwater systems as part of land development projects. Contribute to site development designs for residential, commercial, and municipal projects across NYC and Nassau, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders as needed. Essential Skills 3+ years of civil engineering experience in site development and related design work. Proficiency with AutoCAD for civil engineering design and drafting. Experience with Civil 3D for site layout, grading, and civil infrastructure design. Hands-on experience with site layout design, grading, drainage systems, utility routing, and sanitary system design. Experience supporting residential, commercial, and municipal projects, particularly in urban and suburban environments such as NYC and Nassau. Hydrologic and hydraulic engineering experience related to drainage and stormwater management. Knowledge of land development processes and associated civil design requirements. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and permitting processes involving NYSDEC and local municipalities. Strong ability to prepare engineering reports, technical calculations, and permitting documentation. Ability to provide oversight and direction to junior engineers, drafters, and field personnel. Strong attention to detail and commitment to QA/QC in design deliverables. Effective communication skills for participation in client meetings, municipal hearings, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. Actively on track to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on land development projects from conceptual design through permitting and construction support. Ability to manage time effectively across multiple projects and deadlines. Comfort working in both office and field environments, including job site visits. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical, constructible design solutions. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Huntington, NY.
