We are hiring an entry-level Field Project Engineer to join our Installations team. This is a field-based role reporting to the Site Superintendent and Project Manager. You will work directly alongside foremen, project managers, and subcontractors to keep active job sites compliant, documented, and on schedule. It is a hands-on position that requires strong organizational skills, daily site presence, rigorous documentation habits, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. If a problem or issue arises on a weeknight or weekend, you are expected to be reachable and responsive — this role carries accountability beyond standard business hours. Responsibilities Daily Reporting & Documentation (Non-Negotiable) Support the Site Superintendent in ensuring that a Construction Daily Report is submitted via the company's project management system every day crews are on site (typically 3-4 PM). When the Superintendent is not on site, you are responsible for submitting the report directly. Support the Site Superintendent in ensuring that a Safety Report (Daily / Incident) is submitted every day during construction (typically 10 AM-2 PM), identifying at least one near-miss or hazardous condition, documenting mitigation actions, and confirming a safety discussion was held with the crew. Submit the report directly when the Superintendent is not on site. Verify that the foreman's Daily Pre-Shift Meeting form is submitted accurately and completely each morning. Flag any missing or incomplete submissions to the Superintendent and PM. Update construction tasks in the project management system daily as directed: confirm crew photo uploads, update task progress notes, and flag overdue or at-risk items to the PM. Manage prevailing wage sign-in sheets daily — collect, verify, and submit same-day. No batch submissions. Field Operations Monitor construction progress and quality for in-house crews and subcontractors across active job sites. Oversee installations per construction documents — drawings, specifications, and manuals — as coordinated with the PM team. Perform field surveys of existing conditions and coordinate work accordingly. Track and photograph subcontractor progress daily; post photos and notes to the corresponding construction tasks in the project management system. Assist the Superintendent with punch list tracking, quality control inspections, and closeout documentation. Schedule Support & Coordination Assist the Superintendent and PM in maintaining the project schedule: ensure construction tasks have complete scope descriptions, materials lists, drawings, and site access information. Coordinate labor, materials, subcontractors, deliveries, and vendors in critical path with the PM team. Help prepare the 2-week construction look-ahead by gathering field status and confirming task readiness. Track and manage T&M (time and material) work requested by General Contractors — document scope, hours, and materials for change order backup. Safety & Compliance Ensure all workers and subcontractors maintain PPE compliance, complete safety hazard analyses, hot works permits, and all GC-required paperwork. Assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for high-risk or atypical work sequences as directed by the Superintendent. Maintain accurate records of all construction activity for in-house and subcontractor work. Project Management Support Support Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers with documentation, scheduling, and daily coordination. Attend site meetings with architects, customers, engineers, and city agencies as required. Communicate RFIs, submittals, and drawing conflicts to the PM team promptly via the company's communication and project management tools. Assist with change order walkthroughs and scope evaluations. Proactively flag field issues, access problems, material shortages, and coordination conflicts to the Superintendent and PM — do not wait to be asked. Client & Site Relations Maintain professional relationships with GC teams, building owners, and all project stakeholders. Coordinate with GC project management on construction scope, schedule, and deliverables. Required Qualifications Valid Driver's License — required. Daily travel between job sites. OSHA 30 Certification — required prior to or within 30 days of hire. NYC SST Card (40-Hour) — required. 1-2 years of commercial construction experience; MEP trades exposure preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong task management, follow-up, and daily documentation discipline — you will be expected to contribute to construction and safety reports every single day. Proficiency with project management and team communication software. Willingness to adopt new tools quickly. Physically able to navigate stairs, ladders, crawl spaces, and active job sites daily. Preferred Qualifications Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Knowledge of NYC mechanical and plumbing codes. Familiarity with steam heating, hydronic systems, fuel oil, pumps, or VRF systems. Experience reading construction documents, drawings, and specifications. Experience with field service management or project management software (e.g., BuildOps, Procore, or similar). What Success Looks Like in This Role Daily reports never missed — when the Superintendent is off site, you own the Construction Daily Report and Safety Report submissions without being reminded. Sign-in sheets collected, verified, and submitted same-day, every day. Construction tasks in the project management system kept current with photos, notes, and progress updates. Field issues flagged upstream before they become problems — the PM and Superintendent hear it from you first. Clean, organized documentation that supports billing, scheduling, and compliance without requiring corrections.
