Job Description

Founded in 1975, BR+A Consulting Engineers maintains a total staff of over 500 employees located at our main office in Boston and branch offices in New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Vienna, VA (Washington, DC); Coral Gables (Miami) and Tampa, FL; Chicago, IL; St. Louis, MO; Denver, CO; Charlotte and Raleigh, NC; Charleston, SC; Houston, TX; New Haven, CT; Los Angeles, CA; and Toronto. BR+A provides state-of-the-art integrated and coordinated mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection consulting engineering, technology systems design, lighting design, and building commissioning services.

BR+A is seeking a Field Engineer/Construction Administrator to join our talented team. This role exercises oversight during the construction phase of building systems engineering projects and will be based in our New York, NY office. The ideal candidate will have between 5 and 15 years of experience, will demonstrate the ability to handle multiple tasks, be highly organized, have excellent writing skills, proficient computer skills, and a professional and team-oriented demeanor.

Responsibilities will include:

Implementing approved system concepts in the construction phase Managing the construction-related aspects of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering developing and maintaining positive client relationshipsCommunicating with BR+A Project Manager/Project Engineer regarding potential problems and engineering assistance from the design team that you may needCoordinating with other construction trade disciplines and the architectAttending meetings as required, working to submit the required documentation per project deadlines and milestonesPerforming field work and verification of existing conditions and newly installed mechanical and electrical systemsReviewing, processing, and returning electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection submittals and RFIs. The candidate is not expected to be an expert in all of these aspects of construction, but familiarity with them is desirableWorking with clients to review punch lists and help to resolve design and installation issues
Required Skills:
Functional working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and building automation systems, as well as systems design & construction processesThe ability to work directly with Architects/Owners/Construction Manager representatives in a hands-on training role for the functional understanding of systemsBS degree in Mechanical EngineeringP.E. License is a plusA strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and/or DDC building automation systems is a plus Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and writtenGood understanding of MEP Engineering concepts, design and spatial requirementsAble to think three-dimensionally5-15 years of experienceAble to physically access and navigate job sites of various sizes to conduct field investigations. Physically capable of climbing ladders to view overhead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.

Detail oriented and deadline-driven.

Able to manage time to meet deadlines.

Prior experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC system integration, Building Management Systems, and Air/Water Testing and Balancing disciplines is a plus.

HVAC engineering experience preferred.

Prior experience with construction management software, such as Procore and Newforma, is a plus.
