Ohio , Dayton Job Description Construction Design Engineer (CDE) Full-Time | Heavy Civil Construction | Ohio PE Required Join a respected heavy civil construction contractor where engineering excellence, innovation, and safety drive every project. We are seeking a Construction Design Engineer (CDE) to lead the development of all company-produced designs and PE-stamped submittals. This is an impactful, long-term role for a licensed engineer who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and wants to influence complex field-driven solutions. About the Role The Construction Design Engineer serves as the design lead for all stamped engineering work across the company. This includes creating complete working drawings and engineering plans for: Hoisting/lifting plans, including lifting beams and spreader beam designs Formwork and forming systems (including posted formwork, slab bridges, and temporary structural supports) Pumping and dewatering plans Temporary structures Trench box specifications/designs requiring a PE seal Demolition plan review/creation You will partner with estimating, safety, field operations, project management, and warehouse teams to deliver solutions that are safe, practical, and compliant with all relevant engineering criteria. Key Responsibilities Champion safety, quality, efficiency, and company values across all engineering work Develop conceptual designs to support the estimating team during the bid process Produce field-ready, buildable designs in collaboration with superintendents and carpenters, and verify implementation through regular site visits Maintain accurate inventory and documentation for all lifting beams, devices, and engineering-related materials, coordinate with warehouse personnel Issue purchase orders and work with accounts payable to ensure accurate coding and payment for engineering-related materials and vendors Manage and update the corporate engineering workflow schedule and maintain organized engineering files, including photo documentation Maintain required professional licensure in designated states and stay active in industry organizations (AIC, ASCE, OCA) Coordinate with outside engineering firms for overflow design support and review vendor payments for accuracy Assist internal teams

  • with specific engineering needs and resolve scope, quality, or contractual issues Mentor and develop Project Engineers to strengthen the internal engineering team Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Ohio
  • Required Minimum of 5 years' experience in heavy civil construction or a related discipline Prior experience as a Project Engineer Strong ability to manage complex design issues and work both independently and collaboratively Proven leadership, ethical decision-making, and critical thinking skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong attention to detail Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and Viewpoint Self-motivated, proactive, and solutions-oriented This is an exceptional opportunity for a Construction Design Engineer to lead meaningful engineering work that directly supports field success and contributes to some of the region's most complex civil projects.
