Job Description

Richmond Engineering Works is a dynamic engineering company specializing in the design and manufacturing of bulk material handling equipment and electrical control upgrades. The company was founded in 1996 and has grown to 50+ employees including offices in Pittsburgh (home office), Minnesota, Ohio, and Alabama. We are currently expanding our workforce and are looking for qualified candidates. Senior Structural Engineer We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging and innovative projects within the material handling industry, supporting the design and delivery of complex industrial systems and structures. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with leadership capabilities to guide project execution, mentor junior engineers, and ensure high-quality engineering deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead structural engineering efforts for material handling projects from concept through final design and construction support. Perform structural analysis and design utilizing applicable codes, industry standards, and client specifications. Develop and review structural models and analyses using RISA-3D and other engineering software tools. Utilize 3-D modeling and finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural performance and optimize designs. Review and approve engineering calculations, fabrication drawings, and detail drawings for accuracy, constructability, and compliance. Manage project schedules, engineering deliverables, and coordination with multi-disciplinary teams. Mentor and supervise a team of structural engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and professional development support. Participate in internal and client design reviews and provide technical recommendations. Support field activities including site visits, inspections, reverse engineering efforts, and shop inspections. Travel to customer sites for project kickoffs, field evaluations, and occasional inspections (less than 10% travel).
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master's degree preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. 10+ years of structural engineering experience, preferably within industrial or material handling environments. Strong knowledge of structural steel design, connection design, and applicable industry codes and standards. Demonstrated experience with RISA-3D for structural modeling and analysis. Experience with 3-D modeling platforms and finite element analysis (FEA) tools. Proven leadership experience managing and mentoring engineering teams. Strong understanding of fabrication and construction practices. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Opportunity to work on complex, high-impact engineering projects.
