Job Description

We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as a Chief Stormwater Permitting Engineer within the DuPage County Stormwater Management Department. Hybrid work schedule is available upon completion of a 6-month probationary period and supervisor approval. This position requires the candidate to have an active registration as an Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) prior to start of employment. Candidates with an out-of-state Professional Engineer license must be able to transfer their license to Illinois within 6 months of employment. For detailed information on paid time off, visit Employee Policy Manual , Section 5 Responsibilities include: Directs professional staff engaged in the permitting of Stormwater and Floodplain regulations Coordinates stormwater permitting with other county permitting divisions Administers and enforces the provisions/requirements of the DuPage County Countywide Stormwater and Flood Plain Ordinance (DCSFPO) for developments on a countywide basis Recommends and assists in the writing of revisions to the DuPage County Countywide Stormwater and Flood Plain Ordinance (DCSFPO) Coordinates training programs for the public on the DuPage County Countywide Stormwater and Flood Plain Ordinance (DCSFPO) Reviews, prepares and presents reports to various committees Keeps abreast of Federal, State and local regulatory requirements Coordinates with regulating agencies to obtain permit review authorization Establishes agreements, policies and procedures which are compliant with DuPage County Countywide Stormwater and Flood Plain Ordinance (DCSFPO) and other intergovernmental agreements but also provide the highest level of service to the regulated public Provides direct support to the municipal engineers, village administrators and consultants in the development and implementation of projects Assists with the negotiation of contracts with engineering consultants for permit review and municipal permit program audits Hosts the Municipal Engineers Oversight Committee on a monthly basis to discuss, address and provide guidance on issues associated with DuPage County Countywide Stormwater and Floodplain Ordinance (DCSFPO), countywide development, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) floodplain and floodway regulations Recommends hires and promotions, directs and evaluates employment decisions for all assigned positions Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience: Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering Eight years of professional experience in hydrology/hydraulics, Stormwater management, or water resources engineering/planning Three years in a managerial or administrative capacity Registration as a professional engineer by the State of Illinois. Also, must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois driver's license. A pre-employment background check is required.
