$82-8775 HVAC Project Engineer / Mechanical Engineer Position Summary The HVAC Project Engineer works independently and in support of Project Managers to design and implement Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) projects. This role is responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously, including project scoping, preliminary design, engineering schedules, cost estimates, and risk assessments for projects ranging from small capital improvements to projects up to $5 million. The ideal candidate will serve as the primary engineering liaison for HVAC system design, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and facilities operations support while collaborating closely with Facilities leadership, project teams, and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary interface and liaison for resolving HVAC engineering design issues. Lead project scoping activities, including development of preliminary schedules, engineering cost estimates, and qualitative/quantitative risk assessments. Coordinate with project teams to support estimating, risk identification, and organizational planning efforts. Prepare and submit preliminary project scope reviews, scope definitions, and estimates to Project Managers. Monitor engineering schedules and ensure projects remain on track and within budget. Chair scope meetings and provide regular updates on project design status, schedules, and costs. Support bid package development and evaluation in collaboration with Project Managers. Design and apply HVAC controls systems and BAS solutions. Support Facilities Operations with troubleshooting HVAC systems and controls for existing assets. Assist with updates and improvements to HVAC and BAS standards. Collaborate with Facilities leadership and frontline employees to align and approve project designs. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. 10+ years of relevant HVAC engineering and project experience. Strong understanding of building HVAC systems and controls. Advanced analytical, engineering, and project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities effectively. Strong communication, collaboration, and meeting facilitation skills. Proven ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (P.E.) license. Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) design and application. Experience with Niagara Tridium BAS systems. Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM), Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), and/or Revit. PMI/PMP certification preferred. Additional Skills & Competencies Strong project planning and implementation capabilities. Ability to manage high-visibility initiatives with attention to detail and organization. Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities. Ability to influence stakeholders and build strong working relationships across teams. Innovative problem-solving mindset with the ability to recommend practical alternatives and improvements. Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure while managing competing demands. Work Environment This role may involve participation in a variety of engineering, facilities, and project management activities depending on organizational needs.
