Position Summary The Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District is currently recruiting for a Project Engineer Level I or II (Dependent on candidates' qualifications) Project Engineer I Under close supervision of the Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer I supports the implementation of engineering projects and the overall long-term reliability of District infrastructure. This position helps support sustainable solutions for a variety of infrastructure projects including the planning, design, and construction. Projects are wide-ranging and requires problem-solving and working together to find solutions. The Project Engineer I works closely with stakeholders including staff in operations, maintenance, planning and engineering to analyze needs and plan solutions. This position will conduct planning, design, bidding, construction inspection, asset commissioning and overall project management activities associated with capital improvement projects, including projects at the treatment plant, at District pump stations, and elsewhere within the collection system. This position will work with external stakeholders as needed to address impacts of District projects on customer communities. Project Engineer II Under general supervision of the Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer II executes capital improvement and engineering projects to support the overall long-term reliability of District infrastructure. This position provides sustainable solutions for a variety of infrastructure projects including the planning, design, and construction. Projects are wide-ranging and require problem-solving and working together to find solutions. Project Engineer II works with stakeholders including staff in operations, maintenance, planning, and engineering to analyze needs and plan solutions. This position will conduct planning, design, bidding, construction inspection, asset commissioning and overall project management activities associated with capital improvement projects.
Salary Information Salary Range:

Work is performed in a combination of environments ranging from a standard office environment to project construction sites, tunnels, pumping stations, etc. This will require walking on uneven ground, bending, climbing stairs and ladders, etc. The position requires one to be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time with the ability to operate a computer keyboard or other office equipment. The position requires the ability to read and write words and numbers. It also requires the ability to communicate in person, publicly, or over the phone. The noise level varies from quiet to loud. Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climactic conditions. This position is potentially eligible for some remote work, consistent with District policy. Construction inspection requires in-person work.
Qualifications Project Engineer I Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Registered as an Engineer-In-Training in the State of Wisconsin within 6 months of hiring and the ability to become a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin when all pre-requisites have been met and eligible to do so.
Preferred:
Experience with wastewater infrastructure and treatment.
Project Engineer II Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Possess a Professional Engineer license in the State of Wisconsin. 5+ years of progressive engineering experience.
Preferred:
Experience managing public works infrastructure, wastewater collection, or treatment plant capital projects.
