Medical, dental, vision, PTO, 401(k) Sterling Engineering is looking for a Senior Structural Project Engineer in Portland, ME supporting a growing engineering consulting organization focused on commercial, institutional, industrial, and infrastructure projects. This opportunity offers long-term growth, leadership responsibility, and exposure to complex structural engineering projects from concept through construction.
Job Summary:
The Senior Structural Project Engineer will lead structural analysis, design, and project management activities for a variety of building and infrastructure projects. This role will support project execution from early planning through construction administration while coordinating with clients, architects, contractors, and internal engineering teams.
Job Duties:
Lead the analysis, design, and management of structural systems for commercial, institutional, and residential projects Perform structural analysis and design in compliance with applicable building codes and standards Prepare construction documents, calculations, technical reports, plans, and specifications Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables across multiple projects Serve as the primary structural contact for owners, architects, contractors, and consultants Conduct field reviews of existing and active construction projects Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and support construction administration activities Mentor junior engineering staff and support technical development Track project costs and schedules to support successful project delivery Support client relationship management and business development efforts Travel occasionally throughout New England and surrounding regions as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering (Master's preferred) Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Maine PE or ability to obtain preferred 10+ years of experience supporting structural building design, additions, renovations, and infrastructure projects Experience with steel, concrete, masonry, precast, cold-formed metal, and wood-framed structures Proven ability managing multiple projects from concept through construction within fast-paced environments Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Software:
Revit RAM Bluebeam Microsoft Office Suite Strong knowledge of
IBC, ASCE
7, AISC, ACI, and related building codes
