Job Title:
Structural Engineer Job Description Join a dynamic engineering team that assists with structural projects from concept to construction. You'll engage in design calculations, support modeling, and participate in site inspections. This role requires proactive client and team coordination, construction administration, and business development to foster lasting client relationships. Responsibilities Assist structural engineering teams throughout all project phases, from concept through construction. Perform structural design calculations by hand and using 2D/3D analysis software. Support modeling, documentation, and design coordination across multiple project types. Participate in site inspections to gather field data and verify design intent. Grow into a primary client contact for assigned projects, representing the team professionally. Coordinate resource needs with the Team Leader and clearly communicate expectations when delegating tasks. Collaborate with internal and external consultants to ensure timely exchange of information, deliverables, and updates. Maintain proactive communication with the Team Leader or Project Manager regarding scope changes, challenges, or budget concerns. Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings for compliance with design intent. Provide timely responses to contractor questions and coordinate resolutions. Conduct construction observations, prepare punch lists, and support project close-out documentation. Nurture existing client relationships and help develop new ones through consistent, professional engagement. Contribute to proposals, interviews, and client meetings as part of the business development process. Actively mentor junior staff, offering guidance, training, and technical support. Participate in developing team capabilities through project work and knowledge sharing. Stay current with industry technologies, trends, and best practices to strengthen design and management skills. Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining high-quality work. Travel occasionally for site visits, measurements, and client meetings; may require climbing ladders, stairs, or scaffolding. Willingness to work occasional overtime to meet project deadlines. Maintain a positive, collaborative attitude and a willingness to learn and contribute to team success. Essential Skills Minimum of 3+ years of experience in structural engineering and analysis. Proficiency in structural design and analysis software, including Revit. Ability to gain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the next 2 years or less. Experience in designing for K-12 schools, higher education, municipal, civic, multi-family housing, and sports facilities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with diverse project types and industries. Strong communication and coordination skills with various project stakeholders. Work Environment The company operates in a hybrid and flexible work environment with offices in Minneapolis and St. Cloud. Employees may work remotely but are expected to visit the office or client sites as needed. The structural team comprises about five individuals and collaborates frequently with other disciplines such as MEP, Civil, and Surveys. The company offers great benefits and PTO, and it emphasizes a collaborative and adaptable work culture. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alexandria, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $53.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
