Job Description
Job Title:
Structural Project Engineer Job Description This role is a PE-level Structural Project Engineer position focused on mid-scale building projects of approximately $20M-$40M and above, with growing exposure to larger and more complex work. You lead structural design from schematic design through construction administration with a high level of autonomy, taking ownership of project scope and managing small teams of junior engineers. You design steel, concrete, masonry, and mass timber systems across a variety of building types in a multidisciplinary, design-driven environment, collaborating closely with architects, MEP, lighting, and BIM teams. This position offers a flexible hybrid schedule, exposure to regional and global clients, and the opportunity to grow your career in a supportive studio with strong leadership and diverse design challenges. Responsibilities Lead structural design efforts from schematic design (SD) through construction administration (CA) for mid-scale building projects of approximately $20M-$40M and above. Own the structural scope of assigned projects, ensuring design quality, technical accuracy, and alignment with project goals, schedule, and budget. Design structural systems in steel, concrete, masonry, and mass timber for a range of building types, including commercial, workplace, aviation interiors, and other project typologies. Run projects with strong autonomy, independently managing structural design tasks across the full project lifecycle from concept through construction. Oversee and mentor 2-3 junior engineers at a time, providing technical guidance, reviewing their work, and supporting their professional development. Apply strong knowledge of building codes, standards, and jurisdictional requirements to structural designs, ensuring compliance and constructability. Use Revit, AutoCAD, and structural analysis tools to produce and coordinate structural models, drawings, and construction documents. Coordinate closely with architects, MEP, lighting, and BIM teams across 3-5 disciplines to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary designs. Participate actively in a collaborative, design-driven process, contributing structural insight to enhance overall building performance and design quality. Execute projects on schedule and within budget, managing priorities and communicating effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. Resolve complex structural and design issues independently across multiple project phases, from early design through construction. Support construction administration by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and addressing field issues related to structural design. Contribute to the growth and cohesion of the structural engineering team within a regional hub structure, collaborating with colleagues across multiple offices. Essential Skills At least 8 years of experience in building structural design, with a focus on buildings rather than bridge-heavy work. Demonstrated experience delivering mid-scale building projects in the range of approximately $20M-$40M or larger. Proven ability to work independently across the full project lifecycle, from schematic design through construction administration. Strong technical expertise in the design of steel and concrete structural systems. Solid understanding and application of building codes, standards, and jurisdictional requirements for structural design. Proficiency with Revit for structural modeling and documentation. Proficiency with AutoCAD for structural drawings and coordination. Experience using structural analysis tools to support design and verification of structural systems. Ability to manage and mentor 2-3 junior engineers simultaneously, providing technical oversight and leadership. Demonstrated capability to coordinate with multiple disciplines, including architecture, MEP, and BIM, on complex building projects. Track record of delivering projects in the $20M-$80M range on schedule and within budget. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex structural and design issues independently across multiple project phases. Additional Skills & Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license or being close to achieving licensure. Exposure to mass timber structural systems and a variety of project types. Experience mentoring or overseeing junior engineering staff in a project setting. Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment with in-house MEP and lighting teams. Familiarity with construction administration processes, including RFIs, submittal reviews, and field issue resolution. Interest in working on commercial, workplace, aviation interiors, and other diverse building projects. Motivation to grow into larger and more complex projects while taking on increased leadership and project ownership responsibilities. Work Environment You work in a collaborative, design-driven studio environment where structural engineers are closely integrated with architects, MEP, lighting, and BIM teams rather than operating in silos. The team emphasizes strong coordination and shared ownership of building performance, giving you exposure to full building systems beyond just the structural scope. The role follows a hybrid work model with three days in the office and the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays. You use Revit, AutoCAD, and structural analysis tools daily to deliver coordinated models and construction documents. The regional structure includes multiple offices with a central hub and dedicated engineering leadership across disciplines, providing access to a broader network of structural team members and diverse project opportunities in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and other locations. The culture supports long-term project involvement, continuous learning, and career growth through challenging, impactful work with both regional and global clients.
