Senior Geotechnical Engineer•
Nashville Location:
Tennessee (projects across TN & KY) Role Overview Our client, a specialised geotechnical and environmental engineering consultancy, is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to take a leading role in delivering technically complex, high‑impact infrastructure and environmental projects across the public sector. This is a senior‑level position designed for an engineer who wants true technical ownership-someone who can lead execution, make critical design decisions, and serve as a trusted authority alongside an established technical leader. You will play a central role in shaping geotechnical solutions for federal, state, and municipal clients, including work associated with dam and levee safety programmes, transportation agencies, and environmental initiatives. This role offers both technical depth and visibility, within a close‑knit consultancy where your expertise directly influences outcomes, clients, and company direction. Key Responsibilities Lead the technical execution of geotechnical projects from investigation through design and delivery Serve as the Engineer of Record on select projects, ensuring technical quality and compliance Direct and interpret subsurface exploration programmes, including drilling, sampling, and laboratory testing Develop and review geotechnical analyses and design recommendations, including foundations, earthworks, and slope stability Act as a technical authority for junior engineers, providing mentorship and guidance Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across environmental, survey, and engineering disciplines Interface directly with public‑sector clients, including federal agencies, municipalities, and DOTs Support proposals and client development through technical credibility and expertise Technical Focus Areas You will work across a diverse portfolio of specialised projects, with a strong emphasis on: Dam and levee engineering Safety assessments, risk evaluations, and large‑scale subsurface investigations Support to federal and regional safety programmes Transportation geotechnics Subgrade evaluation, embankment design, and slope stability for roadway infrastructure Growing involvement in DOT‑led projects (including TDOT) Foundation and earthwork design Shallow and deep foundation systems Settlement, bearing capacity, and ground improvement Environmental and geotechnical interface Contaminated site remediation support Hazardous materials investigations Water‑quality and ecological considerations Municipal infrastructure Projects for water departments, parks systems, and regional infrastructure Airport and public works developments across Tennessee and Kentucky Required Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license, ideally in Tennessee (or ability to obtain) Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering (geotechnical focus) Strong experience in public‑sector geotechnical engineering projects Proven ability to lead technical delivery and make independent engineering decisions Expertise in subsurface investigation, analysis, and design Experience working with federal, state, or municipal clients Strong communication and client‑facing skills Preferred Experience Experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) or dam/levee safety programmes Familiarity with TDOT standards and transportation projects Exposure to environmental or remediation‑linked geotechnical work Track record of supporting project wins through technical expertise Interest in mentoring and developing junior engineers Why Join Meaningful Technical Ownership Operate in an environment where senior engineers have real influence over design decisions, project direction, and outcomes.
