POSITION PURPOSE
The Project Engineer position is responsible for supporting the activities of a construction project site in order to ensure projects meet goals related to schedule and budget. This position requires travel and is located at the job site.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Assist Site Superintendent in directing personnel and sub-contractors engaged in planning and executing construction project work. Interpret specifications and coordinate various phases of the construction process to ensure goals are met related to schedule and budget. Provide knowledge in the areas of electrical, mechanical, structural, civil, and QA/AC. Troubleshoot and answer questions throughout all areas and phases of construction. Manage and adjust schedules and material usage as necessary. Coordinate with Project Manager and PM Associate to issue purchase orders for all consumables, equipment and outside sub-contractors. Oversee the procurement and delivery of tools, equipment, and materials to ensure continuous project workflow. Serve as Spartan representative and field liaison with Spartan project staff. Ensure proper flow of communication and issue resolution. Evaluate and document all change orders between Spartan and subcontractors. Continually inspect subcontractor work to ensure project is completed in accordance with design, specifications, schedule, and safety. Prepare and review reports that provide information about work progress, material usage, and costs incurred. Communicate with project manager regarding day to day activities of the project site. Assist Site Superintendent in advising senior level management of potential project problems and assist in resolution.
Education/Certification:
High School diploma or GED equivalent, required Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or other technically related field, preferred
Required Knowledge & Experience:
1-5 years field construction experience preferred. Industrial field experience preferred Microsoft Project experience preferred
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to read Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's) Ability to read civil, structural, architectural and mechanical prints Possess excellent computer skills utilizing MS Office products Strong strategic, analytical, and organizational skills Acts with honesty and integrity Ability to interact professionally and effectively with senior management Ability to maintain good relationships with internal and external customers, use tact and diplomacy, and possess a customer service focus. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills Manage multiple priorities with efficiency and accuracy Demonstrate attention to detail
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
Travel required or as needed. Able to view computer screen for lengths at a time. Must be able to speak and listen clearly. Fine visual acuity to read for accuracy along with a high attention to detail. May be exposed to loud noises, wet and humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals, extreme hot and cold depending on weather conditions. Willing to be in the field for long periods of the day.
