For a faster application response, go directly to https://wtxpaving.com/application/ Construction Engineer Overview An entry-level engineering position in the heavy civil construction industry. Provide support and operational assistance to project teams through communication, surveying, quality control, and project administration Coordinate between teams in both office and jobsite settings Conduct engineering fieldwork for commercial developments, residential subdivisions, municipal roads, highways, and airports Perform laboratory testing to ensure projects meet design specifications Prepare project documents and requisitions for administrative review Construction Engineer Tasks and Responsibilities Assist in resolving technical problems that arise during the construction process Participate in the research and development of new pavement materials Pursue continued education by achieving certifications in pavement design Engage in bidding process by discussing planning and engineering issues Maintain laboratory in compliance with quality control standards Perform testing of asphalt and concrete using TxDOT-specified procedures Participate in preliminary project schedules and requisitions for review Conduct field surveys and layouts of project sites Document jobsite progress with photo logs and field notes Prepare project estimates, submittals, and subcontracts for review Construction Engineer Required Skills and Qualifications Due to the extensive training involved, a high degree of self-motivation, independent action, and innovative thought is essential for success Passion for learning and mentoring others to foster professional growth Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work activities Effective verbal skills to explain construction process to coworkers and engineers Professional written skills to draft official email correspondence General knowledge of construction methods and engineering drawings
