Job Description

Our client, the U.S.'s largest commercial real estate services firm, is seeking a Building Engineer to support the operation and maintenance of a large corporate office environment in Richardson, Texas . This 3-month contract role, with potential to extend and convert, is ideal for a hands-on maintenance professional with strong commercial HVAC experience who enjoys working directly with clients, troubleshooting building systems, and delivering exceptional service. The position offers the opportunity to work in a highly visible, client-facing environment with the potential for long-term growth for candidates who demonstrate senior-level capabilities. Schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Perform daily preventive maintenance activities on building systems and equipment Maintain and repair commercial HVAC equipment, including rooftop package units, mini cooling towers, and air handling units Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, mechanical, and basic electrical systems throughout the facility Conduct routine inspections of building systems to identify deficiencies and proactively address maintenance needs Assist with maintaining breakrooms and common areas to ensure a positive workplace experience Assemble, move, and reconfigure office furniture to support changing business needs Review and complete preventive maintenance work orders using the CMMS system Support fire life safety inspections and ensure building systems operate within design specifications Perform emergency repairs and respond promptly to facility-related issues Utilize multimeters and follow Lockout/Tagout procedures when performing electrical troubleshooting and maintenance activities Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics to diagnose and resolve issues Maintain an energy management mindset to ensure systems are operating efficiently Follow all applicable safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements Properly handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials while maintaining a clean and safe work environment Communicate effectively with building occupants, vendors, and leadership regarding maintenance activities and project updates Partner closely with another engineer to support overall site operations and deliver outstanding client service Assist with additional facility-related projects and assignments as needed
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; trade school education is a plus 3-5 years of experience in commercial building maintenance, engineering, or facilities operations Strong commercial HVAC experience with a servicing background Hands-on experience working with rooftop package units, mini cooling towers, and air handling units Basic electrical troubleshooting experience, including Lockout/Tagout procedures and multimeter usage Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics Experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs in a commercial environment Strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively in a client-facing role Excellent verbal and written communication skills High level of professionalism and accountability Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small team Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, walking, stooping, and standing for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications:
Universal EPA 608 certification
NFPA 70E
training or certification Facilities Management Professional (FMP) training or certification Advanced mechanical, electrical, or plumbing skills Additional trade certifications applicable to commercial facilities maintenance Prior experience supporting large corporate office environments
Pay:
$33.00 - $35.75 per hour
