Position Summary:
The Senior Engineer is responsible for the structural analysis, design, and evaluation of utility structures including transmission and distribution lattice towers, steel poles, and related infrastructure. This role supports engineering projects from concept through construction by applying advanced structural engineering principles, performing detailed calculations, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. The engineer will also mentor junior engineers, review technical work, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective designs for utility infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Lead structural design and analysis for transmission and distribution lattice towers, steel poles, and utility structures. Perform structural calculations including wind, ice, seismic, and load combinations per applicable codes and standards. Develop design criteria and ensure compliance with standards such as ASCE, AISC, TIA-222, and NESC. Conduct structural modeling and analysis using engineering software and internal tools. Review drawings, calculations, and specifications prepared by junior engineers and designers. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff. Evaluate existing structures and perform structural assessments, modifications, and upgrades. Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to integrate structural solutions into overall project design. Support proposal development and provide technical input during project planning. Participate in client meetings and provide engineering expertise during project execution. Ensure designs meet safety, constructability, and cost-efficiency requirements. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering. 8-12+ years of structural engineering experience, preferably in utility transmission or telecommunications structures. Strong experience designing lattice towers, steel poles, or utility support structures. Proficiency with structural analysis and design software (e.g., PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole, RISA, STAAD, or similar). Knowledge of relevant codes and standards including ASCE, AISC, TIA-222, and NESC. Experience performing detailed structural calculations and preparing engineering reports. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain. Experience with transmission line design and analysis. Experience reviewing fabrication drawings and working with structural steel manufacturers. Experience with foundation loading and geotechnical coordination for utility structures. Project leadership or technical lead experience. Key Competencies Structural analysis and design expertise Engineering judgment and technical leadership Quality assurance and technical review Collaboration across multidisciplinary teams Mentoring and knowledge sharing Physical Requirements Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time while working on a computer or reviewing technical documents. Ability to occasionally move about construction sites, utility corridors, or industrial facilities during field visits or inspections. Ability to traverse uneven terrain, stairs, or ladders when accessing project locations or viewing structural elements, when required. Ability to occasionally lift or move items up to approximately 25 pounds, such as field equipment, documents, or sample materials. Ability to travel periodically to project sites, client meetings, or fabrication facilities as project needs require. Ability to maintain attention to detail and accuracy while performing engineering calculations, modeling, and design review. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects or deadlines in a professional work environment. Ability to interpret engineering codes, standards, and technical documents. Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively in written and verbal formats. Ability to exercise professional judgment and make informed engineering decisions. Work Environment Work is performed primarily in a professional office environment, with periodic travel to construction sites, substations, or utility infrastructure locations. Field visits may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, construction activity, and industrial environments, and may require the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
