Senior Civil Engineer / Civil Lead (PE Track) Benchmark Engineering and Land Surveying, LLC Sandy, UT Job Details Full-time $85,000 - $95,000 a year Benefits Health insurance Paid time off Life insurance Retirement plan Qualifications Civil engineering Teamwork 3D CAD modeling Engineering Bachelor's degree Civil Engineering Technical Proficiency Full Job Description Position Summary Benchmark Engineering & Land Surveying is seeking a senior‑level civil engineer to support land development projects through hands‑on design, thoughtful plan review (QC), and coordination with the existing civil team. This role partners closely with licensed PE leadership and operations to help maintain quality, schedules, and consistency across projects. The position is ideal for a licensed PE or an experienced engineer who enjoys collaborating, reviewing work, and teaching through example. Licensure is preferred but not required at hire, provided the candidate is eligible and able to obtain PE licensure within approximately two years. Key Responsibilities Technical & Project Responsibilities
  • Design and support civil engineering projects related to land development.
  • Prepare and review grading plans, drainage plans, utility layouts, and construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Perform and review engineering calculations related to stormwater detention/retention and site design.
  • Ensure plans comply with applicable city, county, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical input for proposals and scopes as needed.
  • Manage assigned civil projects through design and permitting, coordinating schedules, deliverables, and key milestones.
  • Serve as a day-to-day project point of contact, supporting communication with clients, jurisdictions, and internal team members. Quality, Collaboration & Team Support
  • Review plans prepared by other team members for accuracy, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Offer clear, constructive feedback to support learning and consistency.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, clients, surveyors, architects, and other consultants.
  • Support project schedules and deliverables in coordination with leadership. Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years of civil engineering experience, preferably in land development.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong understanding of grading, drainage, and site design principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a small-team environment. Preferred
  • Utah PE license, or active EIT progressing toward licensure.
  • Experience reviewing plans and supporting junior staff.
  • Familiarity with local municipal review and permitting processes.
