Job Description
A leading engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its collaborative team in Arlington, Virginia. This role plays a key part in delivering geotechnical design and construction support services on high-profile land development and infrastructure projects, with opportunities to work cross-functionally alongside civil, environmental, and structural teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign earth structures, deep foundations, retaining walls, support of excavation, and underpinning systems.
Support the Project Manager with field coordination and project management activities.
Scope and oversee geotechnical investigations and construction projects, including periodic inspection of geotechnical construction activities.
Coordinate subsurface investigations and contribute to geotechnical report preparation.
Prepare boring logs, test pit logs, field dailies, and chain-of-custody documentation.
Perform field work as required in support of investigations and construction.
Carry out additional duties as assigned in support of project delivery.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering required; Master's degree strongly preferred.3+ years of geotechnical experience supporting subsurface investigations and geotechnical construction inspections.
PE PrefferedU.S. citizenship required (client-mandated for federal projects).Preferred Experience & SkillsExperience coordinating investigations, fieldwork, geotechnical reports, and specification writing.
Prior field experience with:
Earthwork and gradingDriven and drilled pile construction and load testingFooting subgrade and backfill inspectionGround improvement methodsRetaining wall systemsExcavation support system design and inspectionFamiliarity with geotechnical software such as gINT, SLOPE/W or Slide, PLAXIS, LPILE, GRLWEAP, MSEW, and SHAKE.Strong written and verbal communication skills.
High attention to detail with strong analytical, multitasking, and judgment abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Comfortable performing field work as required.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for job site visits and client meetings.
