Multiple locations serve Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and surrounding states with crane rentals and service.
Description Summary:
The Project Engineer is responsible for the planning and execution of highly specialized work related to the transportation and lifting of large components in support of power generation, petrochemical and heavy civil projects. Such projects pose significant challenges that require precise planning and engineering expertise. W.O. Grubb looks to its engineering personnel to employ innovative design solutions for the handling of components that are often heavy, oversized, and/or extremely sensitive. The Project Engineer will support the engineers, salesmen and project managers by producing detailed layout, operational and fabrication drawings in support of crane, rigging, transportation, and steel erection operations. The individual typically works under limited supervision, expected to travel to project sites, on occasion, to oversee critical lifts and to gather site-related information to assist in the planning of project work, and expected to work as necessary to perform the duties required.
Responsibilities:
Preparation of engineering drawings, calculations and procedures related to the systems selected for the execution of project work. Development of designs for temporary structures and rigging systems that incorporate both new and existing W.O. Grubb fleet equipment to be used in the execution of rigging projects. Development and oversight of load tests for new equipment. Production of related execution and fabrication drawings for our projects. Preparation of crane layout drawings, lift plans, and engineering drawings. Travel to job sites to take measurements, verify dimensions, or to assist in oversight of lifting operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Essential:
Self-starter and a team player. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to give clear direction to support staff and field personnel. Ability to produce designs where constructability is a key consideration. Strong proficiency and progressive experience in the use of AutoCAD. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel. Familiarity with structural steel design (AISC Manual of Steel Construction). B.S. Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and fit for duty test. Capable of gathering field measurements in a variety of site conditions. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and schedules.
Physical Demands:

Approximately 10% of time spent in external conditions which may include temperature variance, elevated noise levels, dust, and fumes. Travel is required. Work Environment:
