Full-TimePOSITION SUMMARY
Halme Construction is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Project Engineer to support our field operations and project management teams on complex civil construction and public infrastructure projects. This hybrid role bridges office engineering and field execution, ensuring projects are built to design, budget, and schedule while meeting safety and compliance requirements. The Project Engineer plays a critical role in the lifecycle of projects from preconstruction through closeout.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Support Assist with preconstruction planning, including take-offs, submittals, and RFIs. Coordinate with designers, clients, and subcontractors to resolve design and scope conflicts. Track and maintain project documentation including plans, permits, and specifications. Support Superintendent and Project Manager with daily operations, updates, and scheduling. Coordinate procurement and delivery of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services. Compliance & Documentation Ensure project activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including: Washington State Labor & Industries (L&I) Department of Ecology (DOE)OSHA/WSH
standards MSHA Safety Standards Davis-Bacon and/or WA State Prevailing Wage laws Public Works documentation (Certified Payroll, Intent/Affidavit, EEO) Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, change orders, and as-built documentation. Maintain accurate and timely field reports and meeting minutes. Support Quality Control and Safety inspections and documentation. Cost & Schedule Control Track quantities, assist with billing, and support cost forecasting. Assist in the preparation of monthly pay applications and change order logs. Maintain project schedules and coordinate updates with field staff. Technology & Tools Use construction management software such as Vista by Viewpoint, Bluebeam, Procore, or HCSS. Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera).REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience in heavy civil/public works. 5+ years of civil construction experience (public infrastructure, utility, roadway, water/wastewater preferred). Familiarity with WSDOT, municipal, and other public agency specifications. Strong understanding of reading civil plans, specs, and construction documents. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience on projects with Davis-Bacon/Prevailing Wage compliance. Knowledge of environmental compliance and erosion control practices. OSHA 30 or current safety certifications. MSHA Standards Proficiency in project management and estimating software.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work performed both in field and office settings. Ability to walk/stand on uneven terrain, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally. Must be able to work in all weather conditions, around construction equipment, and within active work zones.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
