Job Description

In this role, you will review a wide variety of private development projects ranging from home improvements and commercial buildings to warehouses, subdivisions, and full community developments, while also supporting SEPA review, land use hearings, stormwater, roadway, sewer, and utility coordination. You will collaborate with developers, consultants, the public, and multiple County divisions while using tools such as Bluebeam, GIS, WWHM, MGSFlood, and emerging AI-assisted workflows. Reviews and recommends changes to consulting engineer prepared plans to meet County standards. Prepares and submits recommended mitigation to the Pierce County Environmental Official in the areas of traffic, slope stability, and stormwater runoff. Reviews projects for compliance with Critical Areas regulations and writes project conditions. Evaluates project impacts and reviews proposed mitigation. Reviews development projects for compliance with County ordinances, state and federal statutes and regulations, and adopted standards and county policy. Communicates with staff and the general public regarding departmental policies and procedures. Provides technical advice regarding engineering-related problems or projects to the public and customers. Provides public testimony to hearings, boards, commissions, elected officials and the public on projects or cases being reviewed by the department. Registration as an Engineer-in-Training AND Seven years of progressively responsible experience related to the position is required. A bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited program in civil engineering, or a closely related field, may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis, up to four years.
