Job Description
Project Engineer Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to join our team supporting heavy civil construction projects in the Milwaukee area. This role is ideal for a candidate with a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field who is eager to build a career in infrastructure projects such as roadway, earthwork, utilities, and site development. Key Responsibilities Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with day-to-day coordination of heavy civil projects Support planning and tracking of project schedules, budgets, and production quantities Review plans, specifications, and bid documents for compliance and constructability Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and municipalities Assist with RFIs, submittals, and change order documentation Track and manage material quantities, cost projections, and job progress Participate in project meetings and document key updates and action items Perform site visits to monitor progress, safety, and quality control Help ensure compliance with DOT, municipal, and safety regulations Support documentation for pay applications, daily reports, and project records Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field required Internship or co-op experience in heavy civil, transportation, or site development projects is a plus Basic understanding of: Earthwork, grading, utilities, or roadway construction Construction drawings, specifications, and project lifecycles Strong organizational and time management skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Exposure to construction management software (Procore, HCSS, Bluebeam, Primavera, etc.) is a plus Strong communication skills and ability to work with both office and field teams Willingness to spend time in both office and active job site environments Nice-to-Have Skills Familiarity with DOT standards and specifications (WisDOT preferred) Experience with quantity takeoffs and cost tracking Interest in field-based project work and long-term growth in heavy civil construction Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Milwaukee, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $100000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
