Job Description
OverviewA Midwest‑based construction and engineering organization is seeking a Solar Project Engineer to support and execute commercial and industrial solar construction projects from pre‑construction through closeout. This role partners closely with project management, field leadership, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Projects range in size and complexity and may include site engineering, structural, electrical, and renewable energy scopes. The position requires frequent overnight travel throughout the Midwest.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the management of solar construction projects from pre‑construction through closeout using established company processesAssist with and track all financial aspects of assigned projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost controlDevelop, update, and maintain project schedules, including baseline schedules and progress updatesTrack project budget vs. actuals and support mitigation strategies to protect marginMonitor field productivity (estimated vs. actual) and support corrective actions as neededCoordinate with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to resolve project issuesParticipate in and help facilitate productive project meetingsPrepare conceptual information, exhibits, and documentation to communicate project ideas and execution plansSupport project safety efforts, including audits, incident reporting, and documentationAssist with identification and documentation of project impacts, delays, and change events per contract requirementsUtilize project management tools including scheduling software, financial reporting systems, BIM tools, and project communication platformsSupport problem‑solving efforts by identifying root causes, developing solutions, and following through on implementationQualifications1-5 years of experience in the solar industryBachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience preferredGeotechnical experience is a plusStrong understanding of electrical systems installation, particularly PV / DC systemsEstimating and quantity takeoff experienceProficiency in Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills requiredStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to make time‑sensitive decisions in complex environmentsSelf‑motivated, highly organized, and detail‑orientedValid driver's license and acceptable driving recordWillingness to travel overnight 3-4 days per week throughout the Midwest
