Appointment Type Full Time Description Position Summary:
Maintain cleanliness, safety, and functionality throughout the school campus. This position will be responsible for a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and support tasks to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for students, staff, and visitors.Essential Functions:
Cleaning and Maintenance:
Keep the building and premises (including sidewalks, driveways, play areas, and courtyards) neat, safe, and free of debris. Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, health offices, shower rooms, kitchens, and other areas as needed. Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and maintain floors in a clean and attractive condition according to the building schedule. Clean windows, dust furniture, clear boards, and disinfect high-touch surfaces. Wash table tops and desk tops weekly or as needed. Collect and empty garbage and recycling bins throughout the building and grounds, including classrooms, locker rooms, gyms, and bathrooms. Perform trash collection three times a day (breakfast, lunch, and post-lunch). Disinfect and clean surfaces in high-traffic areas such as door handles, light switch plates, and bathroom surfaces. Paint as needed. Assist with the setup, tear down, and cleanup of extracurricular activities, including sporting and theatrical events, which can take between 1.5 to 3 hours per setup. Clean up spills, leaks, vomit, blood, broken glass, and other accidents, properly disposing of waste and disinfecting the affected areas.Maintenance and Groundskeeping:
Perform minor repairs and maintenance using basic hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, etc.). Report major repair needs and safety concerns to the principal or head custodian immediately. Assist with groundskeeping duties such as grass cutting, tree trimming, and snow/ice removal from steps, sidewalks, driveways, and playground areas to maintain a safe and attractive outdoor environment. Maintain equipment and tools in good working condition, ensuring the janitorial closets (hoppers) are stocked with necessary chemicals, rags, and supplies. Maintenance of daily equipment including plumbing, snow removal plows and tractors, and chain lifts.Building Security and Safety:
Perform security checks on doors and windows to ensure that they are properly locked during non-operational hours. Verify that exit doors are open and panic bolts are functioning properly during building occupancy. Conduct regular walks through the building to monitor for safety hazards, looking out for unusual activity or damage, and taking appropriate action. Replace burnt-out light bulbs and maintain lighting systems throughout the building. Comply with all local regulations for trash disposal, including proper storage and disposal of waste and recyclables.Additional Duties:
Assist with the delivery of mail, packages, printer paper and supplies to classrooms and other areas as needed. Maintain the inventory of supplies and assist in ordering cleaning materials and equipment. Assist with larger projects, repairs, and special assignments as directed by the principal or head custodian. When the head custodian is absent, take on additional responsibilities of covering other buildings and areas, ensuring work is completed within the necessary timeframe. Respond promptly to radio calls for emergency cleaning or maintenance needs.Other Responsibilities:
1. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with Policy 4122.01 - Drug-free Workplace throughout his/her employment in the district. 2. All other duties as assigned (5%)Physical Requirements:
1.Mobility & Stamina:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching. 2.Lifting & Carrying:
Regularly up to 50 lbs (trash, equipment, furniture). 3.Pushing & Pulling:
Moving cleaning carts, tools, and snow removal equipment. 4.Climbing & Reaching:
Using ladders for cleaning, repairs, and light replacements. 5.Grip Strength & Dexterity:
Handling tools, cleaning supplies, and maintenance equipment. 6.Environmental Exposure:
Indoor/outdoor work in varying temperatures, noise, and potential hazards (spills, chemicals, bodily fluids). 7.Safety & Awareness:
Good vision, hearing, balance, and coordination to ensure a safe work environment.Qualifications Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
1. Ability to climb and work off of scaffolds and ladders; to work approximately 90% of shift while standing and walking; and to move and/or lift furniture, supplies, and other items encountered on the job. 2. A Bennett Mechanical Aptitude score of 70% or better. 3. Familiar with basic custodial and maintenance practices. 4. Ability to deal tactfully, courteously and effectively with other employees, students, parents and other persons encountered in the course of work. 5. A valid Wisconsin driver's license. 6. Ability to read and comprehend written materials used on the job and to follow written and verbal direction. 7. Ability to staff the position for the scheduled workday. 8. A good safety record. 9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable and should you be offered and accept this position there is no 30 day return policy in effect.
