Appointment Type Full Time Description Position Summary:
The Building Engineer NS is responsible for a wide range of janitorial, maintenance, and safety-related tasks. This role includes providing support for building operations, performing custodial duties, assisting with mechanical and electrical repairs, supporting fire safety and emergency drills, and ensuring the overall cleanliness and safety of the facility. The position requires attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Essential Functions:
Janitorial and Custodial Responsibilities:
Perform all janitorial duties, including cleaning classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and other areas of the building. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors; dust surfaces and fixtures; empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste. Restock cleaning supplies and ensure proper storage and handling of cleaning chemicals. Clean windows, walls, and other surfaces as necessary.
Heating and Mechanical System Monitoring:
Monitor the operation of the building's heating plant, record failure alarms, and take appropriate action to reset the system or notify the Building Custodian of any failures. Assist the Building Custodian in performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on the boiler and heating systems.
Routine Building and Mechanical Maintenance:
Assist with daily custodial and building maintenance tasks as directed by the Building Custodian. Make minor repairs to building mechanical systems such as unit-vents, belts, bearings, filters, oil checks, and compression maintenance. Assist with routine electrical repairs, including light switches, plugs, ballasts, fuses, and electrical equipment maintenance.
Safety and Emergency Support:
Promptly report any unsafe building maintenance or hazardous conditions to the Building Custodian. Assist the Building Custodian and principal with fire, tornado, and Alice drills, ensuring the safety of all building occupants. Help supervise building operations during after-hours activities, including school events such as athletics, family nights, and community activities.
Snow Removal and Landscaping:
Perform snow removal as needed, ensuring safe and accessible walkways. Assist with landscaping duties, including cutting grass, weed whipping, trimming trees, repairing lawn damage, and maintaining outdoor areas.
Playground and Equipment Maintenance:
Monitor and maintain playground equipment, documenting damage, safety hazards, and making repairs as needed (e.g., swings, slides, etc.).
Pest Control:
Safely remove pests such as ants and wasp nests from the building premises, using appropriate methods and ensuring a safe environment. Setup and Support for
After-Hours Activities:
Set up and unlock doors for after-hours activities, including programs like Boys & Girls Club, Girl Scouts, family nights, movie nights, and athletic events. Provide and set up audio equipment, bleachers, chairs, and other items for these events, ensuring proper setup and cleanup as needed.
Mail and Delivery Management:
Receive and deliver U.S. Mail, UPS, and Amazon packages to the workroom, principal, and secretary in a timely manner.
Furniture and Classroom Setup:
Assist with the removal of old classroom furniture and help teaching staff set up new or rearranged furniture in classrooms. Support the assembly of new office or classroom furniture, such as cabinets, desks, chairs, tables, and bookshelves.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Communication and working with the Rec Department, IT, CEC, Oshkosh Fire and Police Equipment, WPS, Pest Control, and Mid American Cleaning Service as needed. 2. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with Policy 4122.01 - Drug-free Workplace throughout his/her employment in the district. 3. All other duties as assigned (5%)
Physical Requirements:
1.
Standing/Walking:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout the school building. 2.
Lifting/Carrying:
Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects (up to 75 lbs) such as cleaning supplies, furniture, trash bags, and maintenance tools. 3.
Climbing/Stair Use:
Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work at heights (e.g., cleaning windows or changing light bulbs) when necessary. 4.
Bending/Kneeling:
Frequent bending, kneeling, and crouching to clean floors, empty trash cans, and reach low or high surfaces. 5.
Repetitive Motion:
Ability to perform repetitive motions such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors. 6.
Physical Endurance:
Ability to maintain physical stamina and perform duties efficiently throughout an 8-hour work day, often requiring sustained physical effort. 7.
Manual Dexterity:
Ability to use hand tools, cleaning equipment, and mechanical devices with precision and coordination (e.g., operating a vacuum cleaner, adjusting equipment, or using small hand tools) 8.
Mobility:
Ability to move quickly in the event of emergencies (e.g., evacuation drills, addressing hazards) or when performing routine tasks in various areas of the school. 9.
Vision:
Adequate vision to observe cleanliness and hazards, ensuring safe working conditions, and performing tasks such as spotting trash, spills, or damage to equipment. 10.
Hearing:
Ability to hear warning alarms, communication from supervisors, and other environmental sounds for safety and efficiency. 11.
Pushing/Pulling:
