Full Job Description Job Description:
This opportunity offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams supporting advanced distributed network and industrial infrastructure projects, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The Assistant Civil Engineering Technician will contribute to the planning, design, and development of civil site infrastructure, including grading and drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities. This role supports the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects. Under close supervision, the technician will perform technical drafting and design tasks requiring a foundational understanding of civil engineering principles and practices. The position will focus on creating and modifying site plans, grading designs, and utility layouts using industry-standard design tools such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling software.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical support to engineering and design teams under close supervision Assist with the creation, modification, and maintenance of technical drawings, documents, and project deliverables Develop and update civil site plans, grading designs, drainage layouts, erosion control plans, roadway layouts, fencing plans, and underground utility designs Use
CAD, BIM, 3D
modeling, Civil 3D, and MicroStation tools to support civil engineering deliverables Learn and apply established engineering standards, document control practices, departmental guidelines, and quality procedures Support accuracy and compliance of deliverables through attention to detail and quality review practices Modify and develop less complex deliverables using design inputs from engineering teams and project stakeholders Assist with minor technical tasks such as material quantity estimates, dimensional checks, and drawing updates Coordinate deliverables with other disciplines to help reduce errors, conflicts, and interferences Participate in process improvement efforts related to design methods, deliverable development, and project execution Stay current with emerging design technologies, tools, and engineering processes
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of related work experience Basic understanding of civil engineering principles and drafting/design practices Experience using digital design tools such as
CAD, BIM, 3D
modeling, Autodesk Civil 3D, or Bentley MicroStation Ability to follow established standards, procedures, and document control requirements Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate deliverables Ability to work collaboratively with engineering and multidisciplinary project teams
Preferred Qualifications:
Diploma or certificate in drafting, engineering design technology, civil design, or a related field Associate degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Technology preferred Experience supporting site development, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion control, or industrial/commercial infrastructure projects Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems, distributed network projects, or advanced industrial facilities is a plus
