Overland Park, KS , Houston, TX, Cary, NC, Chatanooga, TN Ann Arbor, MI 6-month contract Senior Engineering Technician - Civil Design Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Technician to support multidisciplinary infrastructure and power generation projects. This role serves as a lead technical resource in the development of high-quality civil engineering deliverables, supporting site development activities including grading and drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities. The Senior Engineering Technician applies advanced civil design expertise to create and modify site development plans, grading designs, and utility layouts using industry-standard software including Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, and Bentley OpenPlant Modeler. This position also provides technical guidance, training, and oversight to engineering technicians and design staff, ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance with project standards. Required Skills Advanced experience with Autodesk Civil 3D Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation Experience using Bentley OpenPlant Modeler Strong understanding of civil site development and utility design Ability to review, coordinate, and lead complex design efforts Key Responsibilities Establish and communicate design and drafting standards. Review project requirements to determine appropriate formats and deliverable content. Promote quality, consistency, and adherence to project standards across teams. Review design inputs and ensure alignment with project objectives. Ensure deliverables comply with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards. Support the continuous improvement of design standards, procedures, and workflows. Participate in process improvement and change management initiatives. Manage drawing control and maintain project documentation and records. Apply engineering principles and established design practices to complex civil design assignments. Exercise sound judgment in interpreting design inputs and developing technical solutions. Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and supporting documentation. Review design deliverables for accuracy, quality, and completeness. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to support design development and project execution. Monitor production activities to ensure schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met. Support field activities and site visits as required. Communicate project requirements, schedules, progress, and technical information to stakeholders. Assist with identifying project priorities and developing solutions to meet client and project objectives. Support the training, mentoring, and development of junior technicians and design staff. Provide technical leadership and serve as a subject matter expert in specialized areas of civil design. Deliver presentations and conduct technical training sessions as needed. Preferred Qualifications Associate Degree in Drafting, Engineering Design Technology, or a related field required. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Design Technology or a related discipline preferred. Experience supporting power generation, industrial, energy, or large infrastructure projects. Previous experience leading design teams or mentoring technical staff. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of 11 years of related civil design and engineering technician experience. Demonstrated expertise in civil site design, grading, drainage, and utility layout. Strong proficiency with Civil 3D, MicroStation, and OpenPlant Modeler. Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening requirements, including background and drug screening, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Ability to meet all project-specific regulatory, security, and work authorization requirements applicable to assigned projects.
