Why Join the Town of Mooresville An Engineering internship with the Town of Mooresville provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in municipal engineering and public infrastructure projects. Interns work closely with experienced engineering and public works professionals and gain exposure to the planning, design, review, and construction management processes that support critical Town infrastructure and community development initiatives. This internship is ideal for students seeking to build foundational engineering skills while learning how municipal infrastructure projects are developed, managed, and maintained within local government. About the Role The Engineering Intern will support the Town's Engineering Services division by assisting with municipal engineering projects, development reviews, infrastructure planning, and construction-related activities. This role is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience in a professional municipal engineering environment and is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering or related fields. Interns will work under close supervision and gain exposure to engineering design review, project coordination, construction administration, infrastructure maintenance programs, and technical reporting while learning municipal engineering standards and best practices.
  • Assist with the coordination and tracking of municipal engineering and infrastructure projects from planning through construction completion.
  • Review engineering plans and related documents for compliance with Town and State standards, including street, water, sewer, stormwater, and site development plans.
  • Support the preparation of engineering calculations, drawings, cost estimates, specifications, and related project documentation using CADD and other engineering software.
  • Assist engineering staff with construction administration activities, including responding to contractor questions and reviewing project documentation.
  • Participate in data collection, research, and field activities related to municipal infrastructure and utility systems.
  • Assist with development plan reviews and infrastructure maintenance programs.
  • Help maintain engineering project files, records, maps, and technical documentation.
  • Provide support to engineering staff in responding to public inquiries regarding Town infrastructure and municipal services.
  • Assist with survey coordination, right-of-way research, and related engineering support activities.
  • Attend meetings and participate in professional development opportunities to gain exposure to municipal engineering practices and emerging industry trends.
  • Support the Engineering Services team with daily operations and special projects as assigned.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field from an accredited college or university.
  • Familiarity with engineering principles, municipal infrastructure systems, and construction practices.
  • Experience with CADD software and Microsoft Office applications is preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous internship, coursework, or project experience related to civil engineering or public works is a plus but not required.
