Job Title:
Mid-Level CAD Designer - Piping and Industrial Projects Job Description This mid-level CAD Designer role focuses on supporting piping and industrial projects within the oil and gas and related industries. You will produce high-quality 3D models and detailed design packages, including P&IDs, isometrics, and layouts, while working closely with engineering and project teams. The position supports multiple small-to-mid-size projects and helps maintain an efficient workflow as project volume increases, offering strong visibility, autonomy, and clear paths for professional growth. Responsibilities Develop detailed 3D piping models using CADWorx, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and compliance with industry standards. Create and update P&IDs, isometrics, piping layouts, and other design deliverables to support engineers and project managers. Prepare civil and structural drawings and detailed plans required for industrial projects in oil and gas or similar sectors. Collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to understand project requirements, clarify design intent, and incorporate feedback into design packages. Support multiple small-to-mid-size projects simultaneously, maintaining organized workflows and clear documentation for each project. Apply knowledge of industry standards, terminology, and workflows for oil and gas, midstream, or comparable industrial environments. Review and refine design outputs to identify and resolve clashes, inconsistencies, and potential constructability issues before release. Work within established deadlines, prioritize tasks effectively, and adjust to changing project needs in a fast-paced environment. Participate in team meetings and design reviews, providing input on design approaches, improvements, and best practices. Contribute to a collaborative, tight-knit team culture by communicating proactively and supporting colleagues as project demands increase. Essential Skills 6-10 years of drafting and design experience in oil and gas or similar industrial environments, with flexibility for approximately 5-12 years for technically strong candidates. Hands-on experience with CADWorx for 3D modeling, including building piping models and detailed layouts (3D modeling required, not limited to 2D drafting). Proven experience creating piping and design deliverables such as isometrics, P&IDs, civil and structural drawings, and detailed plans. Industrial experience in oil and gas or comparable sectors such as midstream, mining, or water/wastewater, with a strong understanding of industry standards, terminology, and workflows. Proficiency with CAD tools and platforms used for piping, civil, and structural design work. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and project managers. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. A progression mindset with interest in growing into sr. designer, subject matter expert, or leadership roles. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Civil 3D or similar civil design software. Experience in civil and structural design in industrial settings. Prior experience working in contract environments or consulting-style project work. Comfort working on midstream or other industrial projects where standards and workflows may vary by client. Interest in contributing to team culture through participation in team events, outings, and collaborative initiatives. Work Environment This role is based onsite in Colorado Springs, with in-office presence required. The position begins as 100% in-office, with flexibility available after an initial period of approximately six months based on performance and business needs. You can expect to travel approximately 10-20% of the time to project sites or other locations as needed. The environment is a tight-knit, collaborative team setting where designers work closely with engineers and project managers using CADWorx, Civil 3D, and other CAD tools. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Colorado Springs, CO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $43.27/hr.
