Mid-Level CAD Designer - Piping & Industrial Projects This mid-level CAD Designer role focuses on supporting piping and industrial projects within the oil and gas and related industries. You will produce high-quality 3D models and complete design packages, including P&IDs, isometrics, and layouts, while working closely with engineering and project teams. The position supports multiple small- to mid-sized projects and plays a key role in maintaining design workflow as project volume grows. Responsibilities Create detailed 3D piping models using CADWorx, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements and industry standards. Produce comprehensive design deliverables, including isometrics, P&IDs, civil and structural drawings, and detailed plans to support engineers and project managers. Develop piping layouts and associated documentation that clearly communicate design intent and support efficient construction and installation. Collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to interpret design requirements, incorporate feedback, and resolve design issues in a timely manner. Support multiple small- to mid-sized projects simultaneously, managing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Apply oil and gas or similar industrial standards, terminology, and workflows to ensure designs are practical, safe, and compliant. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to maintain consistency across drawings, models, and project documentation. Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, standards, and templates as project volume and complexity increase. Communicate clearly with team members to provide status updates, flag potential issues early, and help keep projects on schedule. Demonstrate a progression mindset by taking on increasing responsibility and preparing for growth into senior designer, subject matter expert, or leadership roles. Essential Skills Approximately 6-10 years of drafting and design experience in oil and gas or a similar industrial environment, with flexibility for candidates with about 5-12 years of strong technical experience. Hands-on CADWorx experience with 3D modeling, including building piping models and detailed layouts, not limited to 2D drafting. Proven experience producing piping and design deliverables such as isometrics, P&IDs, civil drawings, structural drawings, and detailed plans. Experience in oil and gas or comparable industrial sectors (such as midstream, mining, or water/wastewater), with a solid understanding of industry standards, terminology, and workflows. Strong CAD skills and familiarity with tools such as CADWorx and other CAD platforms used for civil, structural, and piping design. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while supporting multiple concurrent projects. Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members. Demonstrated ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet project deadlines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with civil and structural design elements in addition to piping is beneficial. Exposure to Civil 3D or similar civil design software is a plus. Experience in midstream oil and gas projects is preferred, though transferable experience from mining or water/wastewater environments is welcome. Comfort working in contract or project-based environments is advantageous. A progression mindset with interest in growing into sr designer, subject matter expert, or leadership positions. Strong team orientation and willingness to participate in a tight-knit, collaborative environment. Work Environment This role is based onsite in Colorado Springs, with in-office presence required. The position starts as 100% in-office, with potential flexibility after the initial period. You will work closely with a tight-knit team that values autonomy, visibility, and collaboration. The environment is fast-paced and project-driven, with a stable pipeline of work as clients ramp up. Expect approximately 10-20% travel to project sites or other locations as needed.
