Designer / Drafter Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for a Designer position in Batavia, Illinois .
Salary:
$46-$52 per hour

40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, hours between 7:00 AM and 4:30

Impact Join a technical design and drafting team supporting the Accelerator Physics & Superconducting Technology Division at Fermilab. In this role, you will prepare mechanical designs, advanced 3D models, and 2D drawings that support high-impact accelerator and superconducting technology projects. Your work will support projects across APS-TD, including
PIP-II, LCLS-II, LCLS-II
HE, Accelerator Support, LHC AUP, SRF, and SC Magnets . The Designer will work onsite under limited supervision, directly supporting engineering staff with research, design development, drafting, modeling, component selection, and project execution. Responsibilities and Duties Prepare mechanical designs and drawings using NX1980 . Create and maintain advanced-level 3D models and 2D drawings . Manage design files, drawings, and related deliverables in Teamcenter . Correctly apply ASME Y14.5-M-1994 or higher GD&T standards . Perform design tolerance and stack-up calculations. Develop layout designs, detailing, models, and drawings required for assigned projects. Work directly with engineering staff to research and analyze design solutions. Coordinate design development with engineers, technical staff, and project stakeholders. Specify and select design components and materials. Support project schedules and technical requirements through accurate and timely design deliverables. Follow Fermilab Quality Assurance Manual requirements, APS-TD procedures, and Design/Drafting procedures. Prepare work products for review, checking, and approval by responsible Fermilab staff. Support projects within APS-TD, including accelerator, superconducting radio frequency, superconducting magnet, and related technical programs. Maintain accuracy, consistency, and configuration control of design documentation. Perform repetitive computer-based design work and sit for extended periods as required. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Designer . Demonstrated proficiency in
NX1980 CAD
, including ability to pass a technical proficiency interview via Zoom. Experience preparing mechanical designs, layouts, 3D models, and 2D drawings. Experience using Teamcenter to manage models and drawings. Working knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5-M-1994 or higher standards. Ability to perform tolerance and stack-up calculations. Ability to produce high-quality work in a deadline-driven project environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established design/drafting procedures. Ability to work onsite in Batavia, Illinois. Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during hours between 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM Central Time. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering staff and technical project teams. Ability to sit for 8 hours per day and perform repetitive computer work. Desired Skills Experience supporting DOE, national laboratory, accelerator, nuclear, scientific, or highly technical engineering environments. Experience with accelerator systems, superconducting technology, SRF, superconducting magnets, or complex mechanical systems. Experience supporting projects such as
PIP-II, LCLS-II, LCLS-II HE, LHC
AUP, SRF, or SC Magnets. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand complex technical requirements. Experience working in a formal quality assurance environment. Experience following controlled design/drafting procedures. Ability to interface with engineers to resolve design issues and improve manufacturability. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple design tasks while maintaining accuracy and schedule performance. Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree, technical certification, or formal training in mechanical design, drafting, CAD, engineering technology, or a related discipline preferred. Minimum of 5 years of Designer experience required. Equivalent combinations of education, CAD training, and relevant design/drafting experience may be considered. Working Conditions This position is expected to be onsite in Batavia, Illinois . Work will primarily be performed in an office/design environment using computer-based CAD and data management tools. The role requires sitting for extended periods, up to 8 hours per day, and performing repetitive computer work.
