Designer III (Mechanical Tooling)

10 days accrued PTO , Health, Dental, Vision Insurance , and Matching 401K About the Role Our client is seeking an experienced Designer III to apply advanced engineering and design skills to create highly complex tooling solutions. In this role, you will support aircraft modification, component sub?assembly, and integrated manufacturing operations. Your work will span from concept development through fabrication support, covering jigs, fixtures, lifting devices, and semi?automated tooling systems. You will exercise considerable autonomy in determining design approaches, leading efforts to ensure design intent is maintained through fabrication, tooling tryout, and production integration.
Key Responsibilities Design & Development:
Develop CAD?based design concepts, refine/review tooling layouts, detailed 2D drawings, and 3D models for clarity, accuracy, safety, and manufacturability.
Collaboration:
Partner closely with product engineering, manufacturing, and operations to ensure tooling supports efficient, repeatable producibility across build, test, and field use environments.
Risk Mitigation:
Identify design errors, interferences, and process risks; recommend proactive corrective actions and improvements.
Verification & Validation:
Support design verification and functional tryout of tools, ensuring completeness from initial concept through final acceptance.
Manufacturing Support:
Assist in developing acceptance criteria for in?house or outsourced tooling fabrication; provide technical guidance to fabrication shops and operations.
Process Improvement:
Provide hands?on design support for integrating new processes, improving existing workflows, and enabling ergonomic, safe, and cost?effective production.
Required Skills & Qualifications Education:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
Experience:
Typically requires 6+ years of relevant experience (an advanced degree may substitute for some experience).
Technical Expertise:
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing ( GD&T ), and manufacturing processes.
CAD Tools:
Proficiency with computer?aided engineering (CAE/CAD) tools, specifically 3DEXPERIENCE and 3D modeling tools, alongside detailed 2D drafting practices.
Teamwork:
Comfortable working in multi?disciplinary engineering teams and fast?paced development environments. Physical & Environmental Requirements Frequent walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs. Frequent repetitive hand/arm motions, requiring dexterity with design tools and computer interfaces. Rare lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs. Rare exposure to fumes, chemicals, or loud noise environments. #IND1
