We deliver complex projects with a strong focus on quality, precision, and innovation. Our drafting team works in a fully 3D environment and leverages advanced 3D point cloud scanning technology to produce accurate, fabrication-ready documentation. We are looking for an experienced 3D Steel Detailer / Draftsman to join our team. You will create detailed 3D models and shop/erection drawings primarily in Autodesk Advance Steel , while also processing and modeling from laser scan (point cloud) data using Trimble RealWorks . This role directly supports our fabrication shop and field crews on active projects. Key Responsibilities Create precise 3D structural steel models, shop drawings, assembly drawings, erection plans, and connection details using Autodesk Advance Steel. Process, register, clean, and extract geometry from 3D point cloud data in Trimble RealWorks for as-built modeling, clash detection, measurements, and retrofit/ verification work. Generate accurate bills of materials (BOMs), parts lists, and fabrication deliverables. Interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements, codes, and fabrication standards. Collaborate daily with project managers, estimators, engineers, fabricators, and erection crews to resolve questions, incorporate revisions, and maintain drawing quality. Manage drawing revisions, maintain standards and file organization, and deliver documentation on schedule. Support proposal drawings, change orders, and final as-built record sets as needed. Help improve workflows that integrate point cloud data with detailing and fabrication processes. Requirements Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a steel detailer, structural draftsman, or 3D modeler in metal fabrication, structural steel, or industrial construction. Advanced proficiency with Autodesk Advance Steel for producing fabrication and erection drawings. Hands-on experience processing and modeling from 3D point clouds using Trimble RealWorks (or similar software such as Leica Cyclone or Faro Scene). Solid understanding of structural steel connections, fabrication tolerances, welding symbols, and industry standards (AISC, AWS, etc.). Ability to read and work from complex architectural and structural drawings. Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects. Good communication and teamwork skills in a collaborative shop + office environment. Technical degree or certification in Drafting, CAD, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred (strong relevant experience will be considered in place of a degree). Preferred Qualifications Direct experience with Trimble laser scanners or full reality-capture / scan-to-model workflows. Familiarity with Autodesk Revit, Inventor, AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360. Background in industrial facilities, agricultural buildings, or process-related steel projects. Experience producing NC/DSTV files or working directly with CNC fabrication equipment.
