Job Description
Position OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Civil Designer to lead the production of civil site design plans for Land Development and Site Development projects. The Senior Civil Designer will produce detailed site layouts, grading plans, drainage designs, and SWPPP documentation using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. This role also involves mentoring junior staff and supporting construction-phase services.
Key ResponsibilitiesCreate and revise detailed civil site design drawings, including site layouts, grading plans, utility plans, erosion control and drainage details using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.Develop grading, stormwater management and drainage designs that meet regulatory requirements and best practices.
Prepare SWPPP plans, erosion and sediment control details, and related permit packages for local, state, and federal approvals.
Produce construction documents, plans, profiles, cross-sections, quantity take-offs, and specifications for land development and site development projects.
Coordinate with civil engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, MEP designers and contractors to integrate design disciplines and resolve technical issues.
Perform quality control and QA/QC review of drawings and deliverables to ensure accuracy, compliance with standards, and constructability.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior designers and CAD technicians; promote CAD/Civil 3D standards and workflows.
Support construction administration as needed, including responding to RFIs, preparing markups, and assisting with site inspections.
Manage multiple projects and priorities, maintain project documentation, and assist project managers in meeting schedule and budget objectives.
QualificationsAssociate or Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, or related field; equivalent work experience considered.
Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in civil site design, land development, or site development; prior senior/designer role preferred.
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for creating plans, grading models, and profiles.
Strong experience with grading, drainage design, stormwater management, and SWPPP preparation.
Familiarity with local permitting processes, municipal codes, and state/federal stormwater regulations.
Proven ability to prepare construction documents, perform quantity take-offs, and support permit submittals.
Experience mentoring junior staff and enforcing CAD/Civil 3D standards and workflows.
Professional certifications such as EIT, NICET, or AutoCAD/Civil 3D certification are a plus.
