Structural Drafter / Detailer Grand Forks, ND

  • 3-7 Years Experience About this role LucentHD is seeking a skilled Structural Drafter/Detailer to join our production team in Grand Forks, ND. In this role, you will be the critical link between our engineering designs and the fabrication shop floor
  • translating complex structural concepts into precise, buildable drawings and shop ready details for the custom steel and aluminum support systems that hold large-format LED video display boards in some of the most recognizable sports venues in North America.
This is a hands-on production role where accuracy, attention to detail and clear communication are everything. You will work closely with our fabrication team, office-based project managers, and field project managers to ensure every component is detailed correctly, delivered in time, and built to spec. What you'll do Drafting & Detailing Produce detailed structural drawings, shop drawings, and fabrication details for custom steel and aluminum LED display support systems Develop complete drawing packages including plans, elevations, sections, connection details, and bill of materials Create and maintain accurate 2D and 3D models using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, and/or Tekla Structures Interpret and translate engineering calculations, sketches, and specifications into precise fabrication-ready drawings Review and verify drawings for completeness, accuracy, and constructability prior to release to the shop Revise drawings promptly in response to design changes, field conditions, or fabrication feedback BIM Coordination Develop and manage Building Information Models (BIM) in coordination with engineering and project teams Perform clash detection and model coordination to identify and resolve conflicts before fabrication or installation Maintain model accuracy and integrity throughout the project lifecycle, from design through constructgion Coordination with architects, engineers, and GCs on BIM deliverables and submission requirements Assist in developing and enforcing BIM standards and workflows across LucentHD projects Fabrication Team Collaboration Work directly with Grand Forks fabrication shop team to ensure drawings are clear, accurate and shop-ready Provide ongoing drafting support and clarifications to fabricators during the production process Incorporate shop feedback and lessons learned into drawing standards and future details Assist in developing cut lists, material takeoffs, and bill of materials to support procurement and fabrication planning Project Manager Communication Collaborate daily with office-based project managers to align drawing production schedules with project timelines Coordinate with field project managers to address RFIs, field conditions, and installation-driven design changes Participate in project kickoff meetings, design reviews, and drawing coordination sessions Track and manage drawing revisions, submittal logs, and document control for assigned projects Communicate proactively when drawing schedules are at risk due to scope changes or information gaps What We're Looking For Required 3-7 years of hands-on structural drafting and detailing experience, preferably in steel fabrication, AV/display systems, or a related industry Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • 2D drafting and detailing is a must Working knowledge of SolidWorks for 3D modeling of structural components and assemblies Experience with Revit and/or Tekla Structures for BIM coordination and structural modeling Ability to read, interpret, and produce structural engineering drawings, connection details, and fabrication specifications Solid understanding of structural steel and aluminum fabrication methods, tolerances, and industry standards Familiarity with AISC standards and AWS welding symbols as they apply to shop drawings Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple drawing packages simultaneously Clear and written verbal communication skills for effective coordination with fabricators and project managers Preferred (Nice to Have) Experience detailing LED display structures, scoreboards, or large-format signage support systems Background in BIM coordination including clash detection and model-based submittals Familiarity with LADBS or other jurisdictional submittal and approval processes Experience working in a fabrication shop environment or alongside fabricators Associate or bachelor's degree in Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related field OSHA10 Certification Physical Requirements This is primarily an office and production environment role.
