This commission-based position is ideal for an individual with a passion for outdoor living spaces, strong design vision, and the ability to transform client ideas into functional, buildable, and beautiful outdoor environments. The ideal candidate understands outdoor construction practices, has experience designing outdoor living projects, and can effectively guide clients from initial concept through project approval. Position Overview As an Outdoor Living Designer, you will meet with prospective clients, develop custom outdoor living concepts, create design solutions that align with client goals and budgets, and collaborate with our construction team to ensure projects are designed for successful execution. Compensation is commission-based and offers significant earning potential for driven professionals who can generate and close design opportunities. Responsibilities Meet with clients to understand their needs, lifestyle, property constraints, and project goals. Design custom outdoor living environments including: Decks and patios Outdoor kitchens Patio covers and pergolas Shade structures Fireplaces and fire pits Landscaping and hardscaping Pool environments Retaining walls and outdoor entertainment spaces Develop conceptual designs, renderings, sketches, and presentation materials. Present design concepts and revisions to clients. Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, zoning requirements, HOA restrictions, and industry best practices. Coordinate with project managers, estimators, engineers, and construction personnel to ensure designs are practical and buildable. Conduct site visits, measurements, and property evaluations. Stay current on outdoor living trends, materials, products, and construction methods. Maintain accurate client records and project documentation. Build strong client relationships and provide exceptional customer service throughout the design process. Qualifications Required Experience in outdoor living, landscape design, residential construction, architecture, or related field. Strong creative and spatial design abilities. Understanding of residential construction methods and materials. Basic knowledge of building codes, setbacks, structural requirements, and permitting processes. Ability to read and interpret plans, surveys, and construction drawings. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Proficiency with design software and technology. Preferred Experience using 3D design and rendering software. Knowledge of IRC residential building codes. Experience with decks, outdoor kitchens, patio covers, and custom outdoor structures. Sales experience and ability to guide clients through the design and purchasing process. Landscape architecture, construction management, drafting, or design education.
