Caterpillar's Resource Industries Division is seeking a Lead Test Technician to support testing, validation, and assembly of Large Mining Trucks. As a Lead Test Technician, you will lead and mentor a team responsible for complex testing and validation of large mining trucks. Your technical expertise and leadership will drive precision, reliability, and high performance across all maintenance and validation activities.

Drive Safety & Quality:
Prioritize safety in all operations, identify risks, ensure safe practices for yourself and team members, and support continuous improvements.
Lead Machine Assembly:
Review assembly instructions in preparation to lead a team of mechanics to complete the assembly of new
Large Mining Trucks Review and Approve Work Requests:
Review work orders submitted by engineering ensuring all necessary instructions and parts are available and time estimate is accurate while preparing to provide guidance to the assigned mechanics
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
Capable of troubleshooting system and component failures and issues including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and air systems and proficiency with
Cat ET and SIS WEB Component Replacement and Repairs:
Proficient in component remove and install processes as well as repairs (engines, wet brakes, final drives, torque converters, transmissions, hydraulic pumps etc.) and the ability to instruct and train mechanics on these tasks
Product Testing:
Work with engineering on timelines of shop execution while collaborating with lab technicians ensuring proper locations of instrumentation to collect accurate data and meet validation timelines.
Develop Talent:
Train and coach junior technicians on troubleshooting, testing methods, assembly processes, and safe work practices. What skill you will have Accuracy and Attention to Detail Experience in testing, validation, and assembly activities by thoroughly reviewing engineering instructions, verifying work requests, and confirming correct instrumentation placement to support safe, high‑quality results. Effective Communications Ability to communicate clearly with engineering, mechanics, and lab teams to coordinate assembly and testing activities while providing clear direction and coaching to technicians to maintain consistent understanding of procedures and safe work practices. Problem Solving Experience diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic issues through strong analytical thinking, risk identification, and support of engineering root‑cause analysis to drive efficient and reliable solutions. Product Testing Ability to support product validation by aligning shop execution with engineering timelines, ensuring safe and accurate testing, and collaborating with lab technicians to confirm proper instrumentation for reliable data collection. Standard Operating Procedures Applies and enforces Caterpillar SOPs across assembly, repairs, testing, and troubleshooting while ensuring engineering instructions meet procedural standards and training team members on proper SOP adherence. Technical Troubleshooting Ability to conduct advanced diagnostics using Cat ET, SIS Web, and technical schematics to lead troubleshooting efforts and guide mechanics through effective repair strategies across all major truck systems. Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Promotes TPM principles through proactive maintenance practices, technician mentoring, and continuous improvement efforts that enhance equipment reliability and reduce downtime. Top candidates will also have Leading teams working with diverse groups of people Experience with Caterpillar or large off-highway equipment in a research and development environment Ability to work in varied field/shop conditions. Associates degree in Diesel Technology or equivalent Work experience in Mining support or Research and Development Additional Information The primary work location for this role is Green Valley, AZ with a requirement to work on-site full-time at a Caterpillar facility. Domestic relocation assistance is not available. This position may require up to 10% travel. Summary Pay Range:
$72,360.00 - $108,540.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
