Under general direction, incumbent(s) manages the District's small engine equipment by maintaining, installing, and updating current equipment including, but not limited to, lawn movers, weed eaters, blowers, chainsaws, edgers, generators, trash pumps, etc. Incumbent(s) provides ongoing training to facility managers on lower level tasks pertaining to maintenance and preventive maintenance of these small engines.Essential Functions:
Cleans, sharpens and lubricates a variety of motorized equipment (e.g. reel mowers, blades, hedge trimmer, edgers, trimmers, etc.) for the purposes of ensuring units are operating safely and correctly. Diagnoses and repairs problems and/or failures in a wide variety of equipment (e.g. mowers, edgers, pumps, compressors, hydraulic rams, sprayers, generators, switches, lights, etc.) for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and replacement needs. Performs routine and preventive maintenance for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of required tools and equipment. Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition. Fabricates metal parts as needed and/or assigned (e.g. cut, shape and assemble replacement parts, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently. Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with health and safety regulations. Assists other trades personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Oversees the District's small engine equipment to include evaluating current equipment, participating in short and long term capital planning, meeting with vendors to review needs, outcomes of inspections, and identifying and resolving related problems. Records and submits all required job task information including, materials, labor hours, and 'action taken' on District work order system. Reviews assigned tasks in District work order system to ensure incumbent is aware of all outstanding work orders. Performs periodic and random inspections of small engine equipment. Maintains inspection reports and records and advises supervisor of deficiencies and remedial efforts to improve deficiencies. Develops, updates, and maintains posted operating instructions for some small engine equipment. Coordinates technical writing and placement of instructions at District facilities with standards set forth by supervisor. Performs other duties as required.Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary. High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired; Five years of verifiable small engine repair experience with continuously increasing technical responsibilities; Valid Arizona Department of Transportation Driver's License prior to hire.Preferred Qualifications:
It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position. Possesses credential(s) from an accredited trades school; Seven years of verifiable small engine repair experience with continuously increasing technical responsibilities. Valid Arizona Department of Transportation Commercial Driver's License.Knowledge and Skills Required:
