Job Summary:
The Technician II
Fiber is responsible for all aspects, of Fiber including but not limited to installing, terminating, testing, and splicing.
General Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Cabling & Termination The Technician II
Fiber must have basic copper termination skills The Technician II
Fiber will install a work area outlet for the floor, modular furniture, and wall (terminate

jacks. Mount faceplates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to

Fiber will build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic, and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels). The Technician II
Fiber performs testing, continuity test horizontal and riser cable, use of volt-ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable. The Technician II
Fiber installs LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP connectors, for both multi-mode & single-mode fiber The Technician II
Fiber will terminate simplex & duplex jumper cord The Technician II
Fiber will terminate & breakout outside plant (loose tube) fiber (e.g. Corning/Commscope) The Technician II
Fiber will terminate & breakout outside plant (loose tube) fiber (e.g. 3DNX) The Technician II
Fiber will terminate indoor tight buffered multimode and single-mode fiber The Technician II
Fiber will install fan-out kits including buffer tube The Technician II
Fiber will calculate the end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for multimode & single-mode fiber The Technician II
Fiber will fully complete all IES paperwork accurately and on time specifically, timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, Job Blog, tool transfers and others as required The Technician II
Fiber will complete any other duties as assigned Testing The Technician II
Fiber will test using an OTDR, Fluke DTX 180 The Technician II
Fiber troubleshoots using an OTDR to identify and correct problems end to end, and Network-wide Splicing The Technician II
Fiber will perform mechanical splicing with all types of fiber cable The Technician II
Fiber will perform fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable The Technician II
Fiber performs building entrance splices, maintenance space, and direct buried splices
Qualifications Physical and Mental Requirements:
Must be able to move up to 75 lbs.
Must be able to work at heights and on a ladder, and in confined spaces
Must be able to utilize tools, as specified above
Must present a neat appearance
Be on time, ready to work, everyday
Display a positive work attitude
Exhibit appropriate work behavior
Display initiative; seek out additional work
Adhere to IES safety regulations
May be required to travel overnight or for extended periods of time
Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:
Must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent
5 plus years of experience in Fiber
Industry Certs preferred (Corning/FOA)
Data Center installation experience preferred
Proficient at terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems (Unicam, anaerobic, heat-cure)
Testing & Troubleshooting
MMF & SMF
systems experience required (OTDR & PMLS)
Mechanical and Fusion Splice experience preferred
OSP / Confined Space Entry experience preferred (splicing)
Must be able to comprehend prints and drawings
Basic reading and writing skills
Must have reliable transportation and be able to meet IES driving standards policy
