We are looking for a machine operator to join our production team. The machine operator will operate, monitor, and maintain the production line. The job description below is not a comprehensive list of activities, duties or responsibilities, which may change at any time with or without prior notice. Purpose Responsible for precise cutting, fitting, finishing and verification of optical lenses into sunglass frames operating highly advanced CNC machines equipment, preparing and processing custom lens edging orders, maintaining equipment and work area, and supporting related production tasks to meet quality, throughput and safety targets. Non-Exempt Key responsibilities: Set up and operate MEI Sphera 2 and MEI Sphera 3 units: Power up machines, load job files/recipes, verify tooling and fixture selection for each job. Change cutting tools, supports and inserts per job specification and log tool usage. Perform machine warm-up, test cuts and first-piece verification before running production.
Lens cutting and installation:
Inspect incoming lenses and frames for defects, correct orientation and other relevant data. Align lens blocks and frame fixtures precisely, run cutting programs and monitor progress. Deblock, edge and finish lenses (polishing, beveling) as required for frame fit. Seat and bond lenses into frames using approved installation methods. Rework or modify lenses when fit or optical alignment is outside tolerance.
Quality control and collaboration:
Work with QC to validate first-piece quality, confirm offsets and tolerances; apply offset adjustments and document changes before mass production. Confirm frame fit against acceptance criteria. Identify and segregate nonconforming product; record defects and corrective actions.
Laser marking:
Prepare and operate the lens-marking laser: set marking files, align templates, set power and speed parameters. Inspect marked lenses for legibility, placement and compliance with brand/product requirements.
RMA processing and repairs:
Receive returned items; clean, inspect RMA condition. Remove old lenses, prep frames and lenses for re-installation, and perform re-installation to established specifications. Complete rework, touch-ups and final checks on RMA items and return to QC for final inspection.
Housekeeping and maintenance:
Clean and maintain MEI machines, laser equipment and tools daily; restock consumables and report low supplies. Clean MEI room and work areas at end of shift. Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks and escalate mechanical/electrical issues to supervisor.
Documentation and communication:
Complete any relevant paperwork such as job logs, tooling change records, first-piece approvals, RMA forms and production paperwork accurately and in a timely manner. Report production status, quality trends and equipment faults to supervisor.
