PLC Technician Job Description This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial production and packaging equipment with an emphasis on electrical systems, PLC troubleshooting, and motor control. The PLC Technician performs both scheduled and emergency maintenance, supports safe and efficient plant operations, and contributes to continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity. Responsibilities Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production and packaging machinery to ensure reliable and efficient operation. Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs on production equipment during active production, minimizing downtime. Carry out scheduled maintenance repairs on production equipment during planned machine service periods. Prepare and set up machinery and equipment for scheduled production runs to meet operational requirements. Diagnose, repair, and replace single-phase and three-phase motors, including wiring and motor replacements. Read and use a voltmeter to diagnose electrical issues and verify proper operation of electrical circuits and components. Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including PLC-related issues, to restore proper equipment function. Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs on packaging and production machines. Diagnose and refurbish pumps, ensuring reliable performance in an industrial environment. Read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, blueprints, and work orders to perform required maintenance and repairs. Keep the shop area and production areas clean and orderly after completing repairs and maintenance tasks. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as required for a regulated production environment. Comply with OSHA safety and health rules and follow established plant safety procedures. Proactively identify maintenance needs and communicate them, promoting a collaborative team approach to resolving issues. Participate in developing and maintaining plant safety awareness and support safety initiatives. Support company priorities by looking for ways to improve safety, product quality, waste reduction, and overall productivity. Maintain a professional working relationship with vendors and service providers. Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency during normal operations to keep equipment running safely and efficiently. Always represent the company and yourself in a professional manner while on site. Essential Skills 2-5 years of experience in an industrial maintenance or similar capacity. Proficiency in electrical knowledge and troubleshooting in an industrial environment. Ability to read and use a voltmeter to test and diagnose electrical circuits and components. Hands-on experience wiring and replacing three-phase motors. Ability to perform single-phase and three-phase motor replacements safely and accurately. Experience diagnosing and refurbishing industrial pumps. Demonstrated skill in PLC troubleshooting for production and packaging equipment. Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Ability to perform maintenance and repairs on production and packaging machinery. Capability to read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, blueprints, and work orders. Understanding and adherence to OSHA safety and health rules. Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production environment. Strong sense of urgency and ownership in responding to equipment issues. Ability to work collaboratively within a team-focused maintenance environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a food or dairy production environment is a plus but not required. Experience with variable frequency drive (VFD) troubleshooting is a plus. Prior experience as a maintenance technician or maintenance mechanic in an industrial setting. Familiarity with maintenance repair practices for industrial equipment. Ability to maintain professional relationships with vendors and external partners. You are expected to follow OSHA safety rules, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and plant safety procedures at all times.
