The team supports vehicle development, regulatory certification, and consumer protection crash testing. Working alongside test engineers and engineering technicians, this position specializes in vehicle and mechanical systems, instrumentation and anthropomorphic test devices (ATDs, or crash test dummies), and imaging. The role involves preparing vehicles for testing, executing tests, and analyzing results in a collaborative, high-quality, and repeatable environment. What You'll Do Prepare vehicles and components for crash testing, assist in test execution, and perform teardown and analysis of test results Conduct vehicle and component-level crash tests in a team-based setting according to written and oral requests and procedures, maintaining high quality and repeatability Retrofit and rebuild test vehicles to meet specified test configurations Install and remove sensors, accelerometers, vehicle test fixtures, lab equipment, and ballast weights as outlined in test requests Perform pre- and post-test measurements on vehicles and crash test dummies using a coordinate measurement machine (CMM) Operate sensors, data acquisition systems, and still and high-speed cameras to capture required test data Document test setup details and incidents encountered during setup and testing What You'll Bring Extensive experience in diagnosing, repairing, and replacing components on passenger vehicles, with Tesla vehicle experience preferred but not required Proficiency in operating a variety of hand and power tools, as well as shop equipment for vehicle and lab servicing, with fabrication or machine shop skills preferred Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces within test vehicles Competence in using computers for diagnostics, communication, and reporting with tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Tesla-specific diagnostic software Strong communication skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions Associate degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology, or equivalent OEM test technician training or work experience Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $24.40 - $50.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
