Job Title:
Fiber Optic Assembly Technician Job Description The Fiber Optic Assembly Technician assembles precision fiber optic components, chips, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and electronic products while following detailed procedures and quality standards. This role involves fine, microscope-based work, testing and characterization of assemblies, and accurate documentation to support reliable product performance in a structured manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Assemble fiber optic components, chips, PCBs, and electronic products according to detailed work instructions and procedures. Perform precision alignment and assembly of very small components under a microscope. Follow documented assembly processes and manufacturing procedures consistently and accurately. Conduct incoming, in-process, and final quality inspections to verify product performance and reliability. Support thermal, mechanical, and functional testing and characterization of sensors and assemblies under engineering guidance. Set up and operate standard electronic test equipment, such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies, to evaluate product performance. Document assembly steps, test results, and quality data using basic computer systems in accordance with company procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area consistent with quality system requirements, including cleanroom practices. Identify assembly, quality, or test issues promptly and escalate them to engineering or supervisors as needed. Work with small electro-mechanical systems, cable assemblies, and PCBAs as part of the production process. Interpret basic production documentation such as schematics, blueprints, or work instructions when performing assemblies and inspections. Adhere to ISO9001 or AS9100 quality practices while performing daily tasks in the production environment. Essential Skills Experience working under a microscope or performing fine assembly work with very small components (for example, electronics, medical devices, jewelry, or optics). Hands-on experience assembling cables, PCBAs, or small electro-mechanical systems. Familiarity with standard electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies. Experience handling fiber optic components and related hardware. Understanding of quality control practices, including incoming and in-process inspections. Familiarity with ISO9001 or AS9100 quality system environments. Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform repetitive, precision-based tasks accurately. Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling small parts and tools. Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions in a structured manufacturing environment. Basic computer skills for documentation, data entry, and recording test and inspection results. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Experience reading and working from schematics, production documentation, and blueprints. Previous exposure to cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environments. Comfort working at a bench performing sit-down, microscope-based assembly work. Willingness to learn new processes, techniques, and equipment as products and requirements evolve. Background in electronics, optics, or precision assembly environments is beneficial. Why Work Here? The environment follows ISO9001 or AS9100 quality practices and emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to documented procedures. Team members use standard electronic test equipment, computers for documentation, and work in a structured, process-oriented manufacturing setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Jose, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
