Job Description
Instrument Technician - Job Description Overview The Instrument Technician provides laboratory and analytical support for early‑phase development of small‑molecule pharmaceuticals. This is a day‑shift, 40‑hour/week position focused on maintaining analytical instrumentation, preparing laboratory solutions, and supporting routine testing activities. This role is not involved in manufacturing operations. Key Responsibilities Maintain analytical instruments in a ready‑for‑use state for laboratory staff Prepare reagents, solutions, and standards according to established procedures Perform instrument calibration , basic troubleshooting, and analytical instrument setup Coordinate preventative maintenance (PM) and repairs with system owners, vendors, and Facilities Instrument Services Partner with Facilities Instrument Services to develop and maintain repetitive maintenance plans Conduct routine laboratory inspections to ensure compliance with EHS , housekeeping, and internal quality expectations Execute routine analytical testing using techniques such as: HPLC GC Karl Fischer (KF) pH measurements Wet chemistry (USP methods) Required Qualifications Completion of college‑level general chemistry coursework Associate degree in a scientific discipline or progress toward a bachelor's degree 0-5 years of relevant laboratory or instrumentation experience Strong technical aptitude with the ability to learn and support complex analytical systems Excellent attention to detail , organization, and documentation practices Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision Strong written and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have) Hands‑on experience with HPLC , GC, or other analytical instrumentation Prior experience working in a laboratory environment supporting equipment or analytical workflows Soft Skills Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and participate in team discussions High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of South San Francisco, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
