Job Description
Lab Instrumentation Technician Job Description The Lab Instrumentation Technician provides hands-on technical support for complex medical device instrumentation, combining service, system integration, and lab operations responsibilities. This role focuses on installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory and clinical systems while supporting R D teams with fully prepared and validated equipment for feature validation and system testing. The position requires strong electromechanical aptitude, a disciplined approach to configuration control and documentation, and the ability to lead technical investigations and guide junior team members. Responsibilities Configure lab equipment according to detailed intake requests, including hardware versions, software versions, subsystems, and specific configurations. Prepare and deliver fully configured equipment for scheduled handoffs, typically aligned with weekly testing cycles. Perform system upgrades, hardware swaps, software updates, and subsystem replacements on lab and clinical equipment. Maintain strict configuration control and comprehensive documentation for all lab assets to support traceability and compliance. Capture and maintain detailed records that support design history files and ensure test integrity. Troubleshoot equipment issues and resolve configuration discrepancies to minimize downtime. Ensure high uptime and readiness of limited shared lab resources to support multiple engineering teams. Partner closely with R D engineers as internal customers, understanding their testing needs and ensuring equipment readiness. Support overall lab efficiency through strong process discipline, meticulous documentation, and attention to detail. Provide leadership and guidance to junior team members, sharing knowledge and best practices in system integration and lab operations Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, or a related technical field. At least 2 years of experience as a Field Technician, Field Engineer, Systems Technician, Systems Engineer, or a closely related role. Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience assembling, disassembling, upgrading, and troubleshooting complex lab equipment. Proven ability to perform advanced troubleshooting across hardware, software, and system-level functions. Strong documentation discipline with the ability to maintain accurate and detailed configuration and service records. High attention to configuration details and adherence to governing procedures and standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a regulated industry such as medical device, biotechnology, diagnostics, or pharmaceutical. Inst Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Sunnyvale, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr. Work Environment This is a fully onsite role, working 5 days per week in a laboratory and technical environment that supports R D and system testing activities. Typical working hours follow a standard daytime schedule, such as 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position is hands-on and operational, closely aligned to a field technician or systems technician profile, involving frequent interaction with complex laboratory and medical device equipment. The work environment emphasizes process discipline, detailed documentation, and close collaboration with engineering teams.
