  • Full-time Job Summary The Farm Shop Mechanic performs routine and non-routine maintenance and repair of farm equipment and vehicles under established procedures and supervision.
This position does not have independent authority over business operations, scheduling, or personnel and is paid on an hourly basis in compliance with California wage and hour laws. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are representative and may change based on operational needs. All work must be performed on the clock and in accordance with company policies: Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain farm equipment, including tractors, harvest equipment, forklifts, trailers, irrigation pumps, and utility vehicles Perform scheduled preventative maintenance according to manufacturer guidelines and company maintenance programs Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems using established procedures Document maintenance and repair activities accurately and timely Identify parts needed for repairs and submit requests to designated management staff (does not independently authorize purchases) Operate hand tools, power tools, welding, and fabrication equipment as assigned and trained Maintain cleanliness and safety of the shop and assigned work areas Respond to equipment issues during scheduled work hours and approved overtime only Follow all safety rules, including PPE, lockout/tagout, and equipment-specific procedures Perform related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature of the position Scheduling, Timekeeping & Overtime (California Compliance) This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime, meal periods, and rest breaks in accordance with California law All time worked must be accurately recorded using the company's timekeeping system Overtime must be approved in advance, except in emergencies, and will be paid in accordance with applicable law Employees are prohibited from working off the clock, including performing repairs, responding to calls, or preparing tools outside scheduled work time Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Minimum of 2 years of mechanic experience (agricultural, diesel, heavy equipment, or fleet preferred) Working knowledge of mechanical systems and tools used in equipment repair Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and safety procedures Valid driver's license required Essential Functions (ADA Compliance) The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching for extended periods Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds Performing welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication tasks Using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic equipment Working in a shop and agricultural environment with exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, fumes, and outdoor conditions Safely operating and working around agricultural machinery and equipment Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position, in accordance with applicable law. Work Environment Shop and outdoor work in varying temperatures. Exposure to grease, oils, noise, and moving equipment. Required use of PPE.
