Job Description

At Spectrum Control, most departments operate on a 4-day, 10-hour work schedule in exchange for a 3-day weekend. We offer competitive wages and PTO, plus our benefits begin on day 1 of employment. Come join a workforce where we put you first! We are seeking a skilled Laser Weld Technician. The ideal candidate will have experience in operation and programming of high-precision laser systems to create airtight, leak-proof seals on metal components, while adhering to strict safety protocols. Key duties include setting up weld parameters (power, speed), welding, inspecting welds via microscope, conducting post-weld leak tests, and ability to perform routine maintenance on the laser equipment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Welding Operation:
Set up, program, and operate automated or manual laser welding systems to create hermetic seals.
Quality Inspection:
Perform visual inspection using microscopes and utilize non-destructive testing, such as perfluorinated fluid (gross leak) and Helium Leak Detection (fine leak), to ensure seal integrity.
Material Handling:
Work with materials such as aluminum, Cupronickel, and stainless steel, ensuring clean, contaminant-free surfaces.
Process Optimization:
Adjust laser parameters (focus, pulse, speed) to troubleshoot defects and improve yield.
Documentation:
Maintain detailed production logs, weld parameters, and quality inspection records in compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, AS9100).
Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance on laser machinery and calibration of fixtures
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Technical Experience:
Proven experience with hermetic laser welding, preferably with fiber or
Nd:
YAG lasers. Experience working with a Unitek Precision Systems or an Amada Miyach ax5000 series is a plus.
Technical Knowledge:
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
Standards:
Preferred familiarity with cleanroom environments and stringent quality standards (e.g., AS9100).
Education:
High school diploma; technical certificate or degree in welding/manufacturing is preferred. Ability and desire for continuous education of new hermetic laser seal technologies and techniques.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency with machine control software, HMIs, and MS Office.
Collaboration:
Ability to proficiently communicate and collaborate with team members optimizing workflow and meeting production schedules. Ability to solve problems independently and collaboratively. Safety /
Housekeeping:
Knowledge of basic safety regulations and practices regarding welding operations. Ability to adhere to safety protocols and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to use a microscope for extended periods. Good hand-eye coordination for handling small, delicate components.
