After 12 months of employment, the candidate will be eligible for a 401K with a 4% match Position Summary We are seeking a Marine Automation Technician to support a United States Coast Guard (USCG) cybersecurity compliance initiative, with an emphasis on operational (OT) asset data acquisition, system integration awareness, and administration of a future OT asset inventory solution across vessel and shoreside environments. The ideal candidate has strong foundation in industrial control systems, OT networking, and cybersecurity fundamentals, while remaining focused on compliance enablement, documentation accuracy, and operational resilience. Education & Experience 7 to 10 years of hands-on experience as an Marine Automation Technician, Controls Engineer, or similar role in industrial, maritime, or critical infrastructure environments. Strong understanding of OT systems such as PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and industrial networks. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting regulatory or compliance-driven initiatives (e.g., USCG, NERC, ISA/IEC 62443, or similar frameworks). Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts as they apply to OT environments. Experience working in distributed or remote operational environments, including vessels or field sites. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with an emphasis on accuracy and traceability. Technical Responsibilities Support OT asset identification, validation, and lifecycle data collection across vessels and regulated facilities. Work with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems to understand asset roles, connectivity, and operational context (not primary control logic development). Interpret and document OT system architectures, including controllers, networks, field devices, and supporting infrastructure. Demonstrate familiarity with modern and legacy industrial communication protocols. Familiarity with IT/OT and cybersecurity fundamentals, including: VLAN segmentation and basic network design concepts Certificates, SSL/TLS, and secure communications Role based access control and least-privilege principles Alignment with customer cybersecurity standards and internal security policies Maintain a strong understanding of IT systems, network infrastructure, and server environments as they relate to control system integration. Read and interpret Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), wiring diagrams, and network drawings, and provide feedback when field conditions differ from documentation. Working knowledge of industrial networking concepts and common OT communication protocols. Ability to document technical systems clearly for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Detail oriented with a strong focus on accuracy, traceability, and audit readiness. Calm and effective under pressure; adaptable, collaborative, and professional communicator. Project & Delivery Responsibilities Communicate proactively and professionally with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders. Follow site standards, safety procedures, and compliance requirements. Identify scope changes, technical risks, or data gaps early and support mitigation planning. Complete assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and within budget expectations. Support parallel projects led by others, as required. Accurately estimate the effort, complexity, and risks associated with assigned tasks. Contribute to continuous improvement of OT documentation, standards, and inventory processes. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work in industrial and maritime environments may include exposure to loud noise, dust, dirt, vibration, and varying temperatures. Willingness to work in confined spaces, such as equipment rooms, machinery spaces, cabinets, or other restricted access areas, in accordance with safety procedures. Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated platforms, and work safely at heights as required. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods while performing inspections. Comfort working around energized electrical equipment, rotating machinery, and active operational systems, following established lockout/tagout and safety protocols. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and fall protection, as required by the work environment. Certifications TWIC holder, or has the ability to acquire a TWIC within 2 months of hire.
