Job Summary The Instrumentation Specialist is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation systems for NASA projects. This position will work closely with engineers, scientists, and technicians to ensure that instrumentation systems meet the needs of NASA missions.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide aerospace engineering and technical support for aerospace imagery launch systems at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) and Kennedy Space Center (KSC). Develop procedures for testing systems for launch validations. Perform verification and validation tests on systems in the shop, field, and launch complexes. Support in the development, manufacturing, and testing of Camera Acquisition Control Modules for Photo-Optical Control System (POCS). Operate various tracking mounts (large and small), HD video, high speed video, high-speed film cameras, IR systems (LWIR) (MWIR) (SWIR) (NIR), digital still cameras, recorders, and lenses for engineering data acquisition requirements. Provide engineering/technician support on trackers, video systems, and film systems, wiring, software, and general hardware located in the field and shop. Conduct electrical and mechanical equipment modifications and testing of launchpad hardware to meet mission requirements. Repair, upgrade, and modify electronic and mechanical support equipment. Perform preventive, intermediate, and component level maintenance using schematics, drawings, and other engineering documentation to facilitate repairs on assemblies and sub-assemblies. Troubleshoot mechanical and electronic (analog and digital) equipment to component level using specialized and general test equipment. Build cable harnesses and test fixtures. Perform quality analysis, fault isolation, on equipment in the field and shop. Configure and collimate short and long focal length lenses (up to 500 inches) with high-definition video and film cameras for operations. Set-up and troubleshoot equipment in video editing suites. Work with machine shop equipment and tools. Work as monitor and scheduler for calibration equipment on the contract. Serve as a safety representative.
Requirements Required Minimum Education:
Associate of Science•or Technical Trade School• in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field Experience may be substituted for
Education:
1.5 years of related experience is equivalent to 1 year of formal education.
Required Years of Experience:
Five (5) years of related experience. Required Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, Certifications, etc.: Extensive technical knowledge in applicable communication systems. A wide and comprehensive knowledge, and understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the applicable communication system circuits and the application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered. Must obtain and identify circuit requirements for customer and how these circuit requirements impact other organizations. Work is performed with minimal management oversight. Complete and maintain company and customer certification/training requirements. Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to pass a NASA background investigation. Must be able to pass an initial and random drug testing. Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
