OVERNIGHT
12-hour shift. From 7:00PM-7:30AM.
JOB SUMMARY
The Instrument Processing Technician cleans, packages, sterilizes, and stores the supplies, instruments and equipment. Facilitates and demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Adheres to the sterilization process policies and procedures. 1.1 Cleans each item according to manufacturers' instruction. 1.2 Inspects instruments under microscope for damage and defects; lubricates items as required. 1.3 Determines that each item is in good working condition. 1.4 Sorts and arranges items into proper trays according to established policy and procedure. 1.5 Wraps trays and individual items according to established policy and procedure. 1.6 Accurately labels each item with name and expiration date. 1.7 Correctly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washer and other equipment for processing items. 1.8 Positions items correctly in sterilizer and selects proper cycle; seeks assistance when needed. 1.9 Checks indicators for proper functioning. 1.10 Performs required biological monitoring tests on all sterilizers according to established policy and procedures. 1.11 Maintains availability of supplies for continuity of recording throughout sterilization process. 1.12 Cleans sterilizers according to established policies and procedures.

QualificationsEducation/Certification:
High School graduate or equivalent, preferred.
Experience:
Experience in instrument processing functions preferred.
Language/Communication:
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
Mental Capabilities:
Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments under time constraints.
Interpersonal:
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Can adapt to rapidly changing workloads due to changes in the surgery census. Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments.
Performance:
Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles required. Ability to respond quickly to physician and patient needs.
